Micrometer powder bar adjustment

Do I have one? Nope but it will always come down to:
* You still must weigh and confirm all powder weight setting changes even when using a calibration curve that you have generated yourself.

Powder has a VMD (Volume Metered Density) which can actually change lot to lot at manufacture. Most powder dispensers are volume metering type devices and they all work on the same principal of measurement. Nobody will sell a charge bar or similar device less the fine small print you see quoted above. If I want accurate and repeatable charges I will weigh a few initial powder throws and use a high quality powder throw like a Harrell.

I figured I did not need this. I do check before loading. Am using 4.1 Bullseye, it measures pretty constant 4.1 to 4.2

I have the UniqueTek on both large small powder bars works great very accurate write down settings for each load when you return will be super close if not perfect. This way only have 2 powder measure setups one large one small finished

The only charge bar I have or even was aware of is on my Mec shotshell press. That thing is scary sensitive! Gave me the vapor's when I adjusted it! But what ever type of meter you have, it measures volume. With the right powder's, ball and even better, flake, they can work really well. With tube type powder or even short cut powder, the volume can change every time depending on how it stack's in the measure! You'll notice with short cut and long cut powder, you will often cut a kernel. Fill aa rifle case with a 4831 to the top of the shoulder. Now hold your thumb on the bottom and finger over the top and tap the side of the case several time's with a pencil. You'll see what a problem tube type powder's can be.

Come to think of it, I think I saw an electronic measure that trickled out the desired charge into a pan on the scale and the scale, I guess, stops the trickler when a weight is reached. That would not be measured by volume! I'm thinking it was an RCBS?

RCBS, PACT, Lyman and Hornady all make versions of the electronic dispenser and scale.

Disseminator,

It's funny, but just the other day we had a thread in which I suggested Dillon should at least have put a knob with graduations on their powder measures. I had no idea someone made one. The only drawback compared to a micrometer is you have to count full turns from one end to be able to repeat, where the micrometer has a scale for that. But it's a big improvement over the bolt head.

You know, I don't even really use the numbers at all.

It's just that it's nice to be able to adjust the powder weight without the wrench. I agree that Dillon should really address this!

I set my powder weight with the scale.

There are a few of these out there but I like the TT best and it's very inexpensive as well.

Here's another, but I have no input on the quality of it. They have been around for a while though.
