Yay! :)

From an NRA email I just received:
Michigan Senate Approves Self-Defense Bills
WWMT.com
The Michigan Senate has approved legislation aimed at fortifying and clarifying self-defense rights. The measures would allow people to use necessary force--with no duty to retreat--if they reasonably think they face imminent death, great bodily harm or sexual assault.

Now we wait to see if Democratic Governor Jennifer Granholm will sign it. Despite originally being one the most out-spoken critics of Michigan's (at the time proposed) new "shall issue" legislation, she has since publicly renounced her opposition to that law.

More detail here: Michigan Senate approves self-defense bills. Looks like part of the package is going back to the House for reconciliation. We're close, tho.

This package of bills, btw, is the package that the Brady Bunch vowed not to let pass in Michigan.

Hey...another SE Michigander. Glad to "meet" you FLJim. I was just looking around for some CPL info earlier and stumbled upon this news myself on the ILA website. Great news and can't wait to see if Granholm signs it.

I'm ashamed :o that I don't know the answer to this, but does the Governess have to sign or veto these things within a certain time period? High School Civics was over 40 years ago...

Glad to hear it. Originally from Michigan, moved to Colorado, will be moving my residency back to Michigan in the near future.

Thanks for the info from a fellow Michigander. We were just talking about this at work today. Hope it goes through. Granholm hasn't done much else I agree with. DeVos voters anyone????? He's already spoken out as a supporter of the 2nd Amendment. http://www.devosforgovernor.com
