Time to rally around this effective group. They need bucks to fight this. "If we don't all hang together . . ."

As you probably already know, the opponents of our new CCW law are furious because they had no facts with which to convince our legislators that "shall-issue" CCW was not the right thing to do. They faced us and our data from all of the other shall-issue states and they came armed only with groundless fears and empty rhetoric. Predictably, they lost the fight.
But in the true spirit of Al Gore, they are going to drag this issue into court and try to overturn the results. They charge that the majority of the legislators in both houses conspired to break the law and subvert the "will of the people" and they are going to ask a judge to remove from the new law the appropriation which pays for the new application packets and which provides trigger locks and safety materials for state residents. By removing this, they hope to be allowed to block implementation of the new law until they can get it on the ballot in November of 2002. You know if they can hold us off, they'll spend the next year and a half making false claims to everyone about how many shooting will take place as all of those "horrible CCW holders" begin shooting everyrone else.
You know that's not true. They know that's not true. But they'll repeatedly tell everyone else that it's true because they know that enough people ignorant about CCW's positive effects in other atates will believe them and vote to overturn the law.
They've already announced the impending filing of their lawsuit. It's expected this coming week.
But there's hope. The National Rifle Association has indicated that they will intervene in the lawsuit, and MCRGO's board of Directors has also voted to intervene. This will make us actual parties to the lawsuit and will enable us to play an active part in the litigation and strategy sessions. We'll have a say in any settlement negotiations, and we'll be able to monitor all aspects of the case closely.
Of course this will require more money than we presently have on hand. If you care at all about this issue and if you want to see the CCW law preserved, please help us out with a contribution. Please take a moment to decide how much a concealed-weapons permit is worth to you, and consider sending at least part of that amount in to us at MCRGO, P.O. Box 14014, Lansing, MI 48901.
Legal costs of this case could exceed $100,000 before it's over. The NRA will no doubt pay some of that but we can't expect them to pay it all. This is after all OUR state and OUR CCW bill. Let's do what we have to do to keep it.
