A distinction between good men and women and evil freeloaders and violent criminals.
Let's not follow the xenophobic reasoning and view immigrants (legal or illegal) as a source of problem. A rata$$ed ba$tard does not deserve the "life, liberty and pursuit of happiness" as promised by the Constitution whether that rata$$ed ba$tard is citizen or immigrant. Citizen or immigrant, I want to be in the company of decent men and women. Hard working and civil people. I can tolerate the inconsiderate, the rude, and the silly. But I want out of my life those lazy freeloaders who are a drain on public resources with no redeeming value. I want out of my life those violent criminals who set out to endanger the people I love. Is that selfish? If so, is that bad? NO.
I want the lazy freeloaders to repent their ways and learn to work a productive life. Exile them if they refuse to try. Deport their A$$ instead of the so called illegal immigrants. I feel that term is just another artificially created crime. What provision in the Constitution makes it a Crime to cross a non-physical line drawn on a map?
Some post mentioned a goal: Remove the socialist agenda and the resulting magnat that attracts the lazy freeloaders. Let every responsible adult carry an arm of his or her choice and be proficient about it. (I must add one) Let every clear cut case of defense shooting and felony-in-progress stopping never cost the man or woman any time nor money. The violent criminals will know their behavior will bring swift justice and immediate reprisal. They will have to be Veeery careful. We should have procedures and laws that encourage their migrating out. IMHO
But, I have no viable plans, no herculean might or resource, and no powerful posse to help realize that goal. For now that goal is a fantasy to me.
Someone posted that they don't believe the removal of cheap agricultural workers will disrupt the price of produce and that they'd rather pay a higher price for produce picked by American citizen's hands. I take this argument to demonstrate the poster's distaste and disagreement with the produce argument. Well, I also doubt that stemming the flow of immigrant workers will cause the produce price to go so high as to malnurish me or my family. But that is not to say that lower produce price is all that immigrant workers are good for.
This point I must raise. Hypothetically, my next door neighbors may be illegal aliens. They fit the profile--they look mexican. They are also civil, cordial, hardworking and moral. They have a tight-knit family and supportive of each other. I've seen them be good samaritans and be helpful vulanteers. They make good money in their work. Now suppose they are living here without filling out some paperwork to satisfy the bureaucrats. Somehow these good neighbors have broken some laws and they are criminals? These good neighbors are exactly the kind of people I want as my neighbors. I aspire to be a good neighbor like they are. Why does my government want to deport them? Why would anyone want to deprive me of my good neighbors?
Deport not the hardworking, the civil, or the good samaritans. Exile the incorrigible lazy bums who have perfect health and youth yet choose to demand handouts. Exile the violent criminals who repeat their violent felonies if our state cannot execute or has too much red tape to execute these convicted violent criminals.
Finally here's my take on the mono/bilingual issue. An educated man (and woman) should speak fluently as many languages as possible. By 'educated' I mean well rounded, well learned, and well reasoned. I do not mean public education. I am saddened that my engineering students do not know the basic syntax of symbolic logic, that they do not know how to argue a point with logic, that they have little insight into mathematics as a language, and that they have little understanding of mathematical proofs as a debate. <rant OFF> I do not support a federal or a state mandate that public schools should teach English ONLY or to teach ESL. Bureaucratic mandates begets bureaucratic waste. I have seen my share of foreign students lost and confused in an English lecture and of foreign students left to rot in ESL classes Not learning the kind of English that teachers use in a classroom! Total immersion in English is the only way a student will learn English. Put more than a half dozen of non-English speakers in a classroom and we have only created a little private club who will stick to each other. If close to half of my class speaks Spanish only, then I as a non-Spanish-speaking teacher must find them additional reading materials in Spanish so they can study at home. And while they struggle to understand what I teach. I have zero patience for those students who openly disrespect their teachers. They must leave the class if I cannot get their parents to talk sense into them. This is my biggest contention with the public school system. A teacher cannot teach unwilling pupil. Too many kids consider school boring work and are just waiting to "get it over with." These are the people who should be doing hard labor if they choose to ditch school or purposefully disrupt school. Make them experience that learning is a priviledge to avoid hard labor.
I've rambled on long enough. Let the replies begin.
