Merry Christmas to Me

My brother called earlier this week and surprised me by letting me know that he will be coming up for Christmas and my present this year will be an AK 47. (YEAH!) While I'm obviously delighted, outside of 10/22's, I don't know that much about rifles (much more of a handgun person myself). I've checked and it seems that I can get bulk ammo for as cheap as I can handload. What do i need to know about this rifle and rifles in general?

Wow that is a generous gift. You can get cheap steel cased ammo at walmart. No need for expensive brass in that type of gun.

You have to go through FFL if hes different state

Great present. My Christmas present is a new DSLR camera. I'll probably get more use out of it than a firearm.
