According to UPS, my XD will be here today! I'm pretty excited....hmmm so what do I do first? Shoot it? Oil it? Oil and clean it...then shoot?

Need to get shopping done so I can have some time!

hmm... I cleaned my XDM45 before shooting for the first time but all of my other XDs/XDMs have just been straight from the box.
 
Field strip it.
Clean it good.
Visual inspect for any defects.
Lube it according to manufacturers recommendations.
Shoot it.

Clean it after shooting, inspect it, lube it up for the next shootumup.

I have an XD- Tactical in .45. No problems.
 
I have both the tactical and service in 45acp and love them both. The only thing that they could use is better sigts. My service is my nightstand gun and that's the best endorsement I can give. The XD 45's are still my favorite hi cap 45acp's.
