What does the term Meplat precisely mean?

It is the width of the nose of the bullet. It is a term well used in cast lead bullets. A wider meplat creates a wide wound channel. You need this for hunting big game at handgun velosities using hard cast bullets. Because a hand cast bullet does not expand where as a soft nose or jacketed hollow point will mose likely will expand. Mark
