This magazine is usually pretty decent, not sissified like GQ, with articles about excercise, health, etc. March issue, in a fashion segment, they had a insert from Kenneth Cole. Her is a copy of the letter I sent to their website, menshealth.com.

I am a former subscriber, and my wife was considering giving me a new subscription. I'm glad she hasn't. I was angered to come across the following insert in your March issue:
"Dear Gun Manufacturers, Congratulations, your product is making a real killing.
- Kenneth Cole
cc: The NRA, Gun Show Dealers, 1 in 4 American Households, Charleston Heston, The State of Texas, and GI Joe"

This, in an issue that laments the feminization of boy's literature "Stevenson's novels have fallen out of favor...because they feature minors using guns & tobacco", and says in the Editor's letter "...we bought our freedom by not caring about Puffy Combs' parties or Ellen's love life". Indeed. We bought our Freedom - and Kenneth Cole's, by blood, sweat, tears, ... and guns. And those freedoms are preserved by a little something called the Bill of Rights - Mr. Cole and the editors of MH should take a gander some time. Don't stop at the 1st Amendment, which guarantees your right to print what you want - read on to the Second, you might be enlightened.
If I want this kind of Liberal, sissified, PC nonsense, I'll buy GQ. The cc: list sounds to me like a demographic that the publisher of MH might not want to alienate. MH will get no more of my $ with this kind of advertising - I'd rather send it to the NRA.

Well-put, and sorry to hear that they've gone south; the last time I picked one up (1-2 years ago... has it been that long since I was single and cared about how to get taut abs??), it was really a pretty good read.

Funny, but as I recall, they also espouse the thrill of motorcycle riding and racing, and of sports-car driving... What's the percentage of motorcyclists and sports car drivers killed by their machines vs. shooters by guns. What's the percentage of non-motorcyclists and sportscar drivers killed by motorcycles and sportscars? (but in reality, killed by the actions of the operators of same.)

Well-spoken in your letter.

Matt.

Long Path, I subscribed and at times enjoyed the mag. Some writing was great, some sophomoric. I got permanently turned off by a serious response from an editor to a guys girlfriend who hated his affection for motorbikes. Something to the effect of "..doesn't he realize how dangerous these thing are. He should grow up?" Men's magazine, geez, hardly. It was even protested by the AMA I recall. Kenneth Cole? They make expensive shoes and hire idiots for ad campaigns.

Gentlemen, the rag in question has become a forum for gen x pop culture advertisement delivery thinly veiled as an outlet for male bonding in a socially acceptable way. You're all right, if they read the second ammendment the way that they read the rest of the bill of rights, then firearms ownership would be MANDATORY. Never mind the implicit RESPONSIBILITY that goes with using those rights. Way to go, RH, fight the power, and support the NRA before it stands for "No Rights Anymore."

I stick with "Soldier of Fortune" magazine. It's got plenty in there about staying healthy amongst all the leftist puke we have to tolerate on a day to day basis in this country.

Mens Health is published bt The Rodale Press, Emmaus Pa. They are a new age type group that pushes "greenie" issues, and we should not be surprised they went along with the anti-gun crowd. they get none of my $.

Thanks for the poop. I called them up and cancelled my subscription. From the vibes I received from the customer svc rep, I'm not the only person to do so.

Kenneth Cole is a clothing designer, probably in NYC or LA, I don't know and don't care. I sent him some e-mail too. www.kennethcole.com

Hi Everyone-

Sent a strongly-worded letter to Kenneth Cole (shoe and clothing designer) about eight years ago after reading a painfully, painfully stupid advertisement in the New York Times Magazine.

The fact-of-the-matter is that Kenneth Cole & Company don't care what we have to say! They have their target market of he-sissys and all-in-black urban hipsters on which to concentrate their efforts.

If your area code isn't 415, 213, 212, or 305, they don't give a rat's butt what we have to say...and I don't mean you, Cornered Rat or Desert Rat :)

Never did receive a response from them. Since their ads are so inflammatory, I almost get the feeling that they like our letters, they act as a "receipt" to show that their ads are being read!

If I was upper-upper management in a business, I wouldn't want to alienate any potential customers, but they must have their (left-leaning) notions. It's a pretty ballsy tactic they have, what do you think?
