Bryant Gumbel and Mrs. Lieberman are "oppressed?" Puh-leeeeze. And will this country ever get over the Kennedy's? They're just power-mad, dysfunctional sociopaths for the most part. And they make lot's of "bad choices" to boot.

MEDIA LOVEFEST AT THE DEMOCRATIC CONVENTION
We told you it was going to get messy at the Democratic National Convention. All those liberals, all those liberal-lovin'
members of the media. The Media Research Center has the scoop on all the back-slapping and cheerleading going
on:
--The networks played up the speech by Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg. ABC's Charles Gibson opened the morning
show by saying, "Here in Los Angeles, Caroline Kennedy stirs the echoes and rekindles Camelot with memories of her
father." Diane Sawyer added, "There were tears in the eyes of a lot of the delegates." (Awwww...)
--Bryant Gumbel told his CBS audience that Joseph Lieberman "got a rock star's reception when he made a surprise
appearance at the convention." NBC's Claire Shipman said Lieberman "was mobbed like a rock star on the floor last
night." ABC's George Stephanopoulos said Lieberman's walk onto the floor was "one of the most exciting and electric
moments so far of this convention."
--Gumbel again, this time interviewing Hadassah Lieberman, Joseph Lieberman's wife: "Those Americans that have
been victimized by discrimination. I count you among them, I count myself among them, know how intolerant some
Americans can be. How big a role do you think your husband's religion, his ethnicity will play with voters?"
Then he asked her whether she shared her husband's views about the portrayal of sex and violence in TV and movies.
When she said yes, Gumbel said, "I ask the question because this ticket has put a premium on what's called 'family
values,' which for a long time as you know was a code word for intolerance. Need people be concerned about a hard
turn to the social right in the Democratic Party?"
--Hadassah Lieberman is getting all the coverage Dick Cheney's wife DIDN'T get. Charles Gibson called her "one of
the more intriguing new figures" at the convention. Her interviews were taped and edited and interspersed with
photographs of her family. All Mrs. Cheney got from Gibson was a series of questions about whether the Republican
Party is "really an open, compassionate, tolerant party?"
The best--or worst, depending on your point of view--is yet to come, with tonight's speech by Al Gore. To the media,
he's the man. And it's kid gloves and softball questions for him and Tipper. Pity the interns who have to towel the
sweat from the news anchors' foreheads tonight.
