Media Education and Accountability

There's a lot of misinformation from the media being spread around, lots of emotional, uninformed outbursts and statements being made that are untrue and dangerous to the Second Amendment. I just wanted to share with you a few of my thoughts and encourage to spread this message to some of your friends who may be confused by terminology and dishonest tactics being used to spread bad information.

slang, full video...

People use slang terms all the time. Calling magazines; clips isn't the end of the world. You used the term; bullet when, in fact it's a round or cartridge.
Symantics or phrases aren't going to change media reporters views. The media is slanted and they DO NOT care what you say or think.
I'm also curious to know why you do not show your face but want the media to watch your posted video. That seems dishonest & shows a lack of credibility(it's even more dishonest in a video media format).
You are correct to say people should learn the proper terms or nomenclature(a common US military expression) but it's nothing to wig out over.

"I'm also curious to know why you do not show your face but want the media to watch your posted video."

Because, as a private citizen, I have the right to exercise the 4th amendment as well. There are good reasons for this and I don't see whether showing my face or not changes the things I'm saying, it just makes you listen. It's not dishonest in any way, I'm not lying about what I'm saying. Anonymous puts out press releases all the time and they use pictures over computer generated voices, yet the content is put out genuinely. I emphasized the clip/magazine issue because A) it's often misused in legislation and legislation is where wording counts, and B) David Gregory was waving one around, illegally, in the DC area, so I think addressing what a magazine and clip (and their functions) was important. I also wanted to point out the blatant racism and lies that media personalities were espousing as much as possible, that's why the second half of the video focuses on that.

To paraphrase Wayne LaPierre, the best countermeasure to employ against someone with an uninformed statement is someone with an informed statement.

communication; the Kennedy-Nixon debate....

I disagree. You may be honest & telling the truth but not showing your face gives the appearance that you are hiding something or being evasive.
People communicate thru body language and facial expressions.
The TV debate with John F Kennedy & Richard M Nixon is a good example. Nixon had the flu, did not want make-up and sweated a lot. JFK was polished, informed and friendly. Many people say this TV debate is why Nixon lost the election.

As I posted, the media(NBC-CNN) clearly do not care about the terms or firearms owners. Pierce Morgan has stated the Sandy-Hook incident reminded him of a tragic shooting in Scotland where 16 people were killed. He was a reporter on that scene.
Clips, vests(which is a garment not a device) and other terms aren't going to change these emotional displays.

Yes, I wrestle with whether these folks are just misinformed, lazy or agenda driven.

I saw Don Lemon on CNN make the statement that no one hunts with an AR 15 and that if you did the meat would be unusable because the gun would destroy the animal. So, at first I think the guy is just misinformed and probably thinks an AR 15 is full auto and does not understand the differences in calibers. Then a week or so later I see him on another show and he admits he owns at AR 15 which he purchased after the Aurora shooting to prove how easy it was to buy one. So, it would seem he knows the statement he made about the AR was untrue.

Not necessarily. You could go buy a plane/truck/forklift tomorrow, doesn't mean I'll trust your word on what it's capable of doing/hauling/loading until you've used it a bit. He bought it, for all we know it sits on a shelf or was immediately turned in to a gun buyback program, or who knows.

The 'bird' incident was unintentional, but after reviewing the footage, it made me laugh my butt off and figured, 'why not'?

It is, I assure you. I in no way meant to be giving the bird. Talking and moving around the rifle at the same time resulted in an awkward hold that I didn't notice till I was editing.

Moved to General, as it's not strictly L&CR.

You do have a mistake in terminology at ~9:30. There's no such thing as a "Class 3 individual" or "Class 3 dealer." There are Title II dealers, and there are individual owners who've paid the $200 tax on a Form 4.

Yep folks, Tom's being a nitpicky nellie. :) Good video otherwise.

What is the correct term then, I hear it so many different ways that I want to make sure I got the right info. What is the classification of a person or entity allowed to own FA firearms?

What is the classification of a person or entity allowed to own FA firearms?
A person isn't classified at all. He just has to pay the $200 and file the Form 4. He gets a tax stamp that shows he registered and paid. Beyond that, there is no special license or permit for ownership.

The weapons themselves are properly referred to as "Title II" or "NFA" weapons. A dealer wishing to deal in NFA weapons pays a Class 3 occupational tax.

There is no such thing as a "Class 3 license," and the term has no applicability to individuals. In fact, if Joe Bob tells you he has his "Class 3," you should stop listening to him, as he's likely to spout off truly inaccurate assumptions as legal facts. :)
