MEC's NEW reloading press, the "Marksman"

MEC has joined the metallic reloading game by introducing their newest press, the Marksman.

It also appears they've taken a cue from Inline Fabrication by also offering their own strong mount, accessory trays, short handle, powder measure, etc.

Online price is around $180 and it appears to be very well thought out.

I've got 3 MEC shotshell presses. MEC makes quality stuff. I'm not tossing my RCBS presses either. I want to see what comes next for accessories.

It looks like it would make a good gear shift for a truck (grin)

Like to see new stuff, I have too many good presses to get the bug.

I think that the biggest mistake they could have possibly made was not having it out earlier, promoting it like crazy, and failing to compete with the solid presses. It costs more than Redding, or rcbs.

It should have been in the stores months ago, there should have been a lot of press, and there should have been a forty dollar rebate. They had only one chance to bring it out big, and they blew it, at least that's how I'm seeing it. If I wanted one for Christmas, they lost. I'd have bought the rock chucker.

Yeah, they don't seem to be promoting it a whole lot and AFAIK Midway is the only online vendor selling it.

I cannot justify buying another SS press unless I sell off one or both of the onss I already own and that's likely not happening.

Anyway...

Dan at Inline Fabrication told me that he IS going to be designing some stuff for this new MEC press.

I would have to sit in front of it to determine, but there is something about it that just looks like it won't be as ergonomic as a more traditional design.

It looks stout as all get out, and maybe it's just that picture, but something just looks off to me.

Odds are it's going to be a good press though, MEC makes good stuff for sure. I still run a few shotshells a year through a couple of old single stage presses.

My first concern when looking at it was hitting the shell holder retention clip with your hand when loading a case, and indeed that is what happened in the video. Could be very annoying. It appears pretty solid. Think I will keep my old Rock Chucker however.
