Mecgar 8 rounder doesn't fit in a Kimber?

Title pretty much says it all - it appears that the 8 round magazines I got for my Kimber Classic don't fit! It looks like the release slot is too low... and I'm just confused.

I had no clue that 1911 magazines (other than Para) could be non-standard. Anyone else familiar with this?

Possibly mismarked 220 mags? A .45 single stack 1911 mag is a .45 single stack 1911 mag, in form at least if not in function.

I have seen problems with the 8-round, 1911 magazines.

Take a look at this thread:

Here is what Str8_Shot has to say:

To fit 8 rounds in a magazine the follower must be changed to allow the rounds to sit lower against the follower and the spring must be changed to allow it to compress farther. In a lot of cases variations in the normal manufacture of a magazine, when 8 rounds are installed the spring is fully compressed. Therefore there is no give left in the spring for when it is installed in a pistol and the magazine release cannot catch the slot in the magazine, no matter how hard you slam it home. So when the shooter pulls the trigger, the round in the chamber fires but the slide can't pick up the next round because the magazine is too low in the mag well, or worse yet the magazine falls out of the pistol entirely.

For top reliability, I use the 7-round Wilson Magazines.

Chip McCormick 8rnd "Shooting Star" mags.

I have a Kimber Custom Classic that loves these magazines.
I have yet to have a problem with them.

Here's a pic of one of these mags next to my Kimber that Eabco electroless nickel plated for me (it's my gun he uses to advertise this service on his web site).

I have used 7 round and 8 round mags in various 1911's. My experience has been that the 8 round mags are harder to seat when fully loaded, not always reliable and the springs do not seem to last nearly as long as the 7 rounder's. The 1911 magazine was designed for 7 rounds, maybe Colt knew what they were doing? I would not trust my life with a 8 round mag.
