Mec,

What is this thing?

Cheap, right now, but probably for a reason.

WHAT THE HELL IS IT? A Le Fauchaute (sp) A piece of crap? What?

Cheers,

George

George, These are French-design LEFAUCHEUX pinfire pistols that date from the mid-1800's. Some were also Belgian made. Believe it or not, they were the 4th most used pistol during the US Civil War. Many were purchased by the North and the South. From my research, The Civil War pistols tend to be 12 millimeter bore, mostly.

I believe that Civil War vintage models are quite under-valued, and can be bought for only a few hundred dollars (as compared to a few thousand dollars for a Colt, Remington, or Starr).

I am now trying to find a decently-priced model for my collection.

Here is a website with a lot more info:

Hope this helps,

"Probably the most notable person to carry one was Stonewall Jackson." I'm guessing that would be a pretty good endorsement. :)

Yep. What they said.
I semi-remember a magazine article a long while back where somebody figured out how to stick a pistol primer under the pin and reload the LeF.... cases.

John,

Thank you, and thanks for the valuable link. Will likely spend a good bit of time reading, there.

Unless I posted a link elsewhere, how the heck did you see what I was asking about? Unless my link got deleted.

OD, sure wasn't THIS George reloading them. Would be curious to know how you COULD. Guess I'll have to ask Tinker2

And how are you feeling, Tinker?

Cheers,

George
