Found some MEC-GAR mags for my 9mm 1911. They are made in Italy and look to be pretty good quality, but looks can be deceiving. At $29.00 Cdn they seem to be a reasonable bargin. Any one have experience with them?

Cain, From my experiences they are very good. I have them for my Kel-Tec as they come as standard equipment. No failures whatsoever.

I don't know about they would perform in the 1911 however.-------Chainsaw

I bought a couple of Mec-Gar mags for my .45 1911 last fall (one 7 round and one 8 round). I have shot over 3000 rounds with them without a single failure. They seem to be well made and are very reliable. I've had better luck with Mec-Gar than I have had with Chip-McCormick.

I have three MecGar's for a 1911 that work great, so far, with swc's and hollow points.

I had a couple for a .40 BHP, and they were not as reliable as the factory mags with hollow points.

Mec Gar mags are some of the best out there. They supply mags to many gun manufacturers (mention above) and adding CZ and some Taurus (I've read).

Add to that the fact that I own about a dozen or so of them with ZERO problems.

Yes, they're my top pick for the guns which I own.

I'll throw in a dissenting voice although my experience is extremely limited and I bought them off Cheaper Than Dirt, so maybe Mec-Gars weren't what I really ended up with. And based on other responses, I'm sure my experience was the exception to the rule.

I bought two 13-rounders for a Browning HP and one 20 rounder for a Sig P226. One 13-rounder worked great although it was very rough. The other collapsed as I attempted to load the third cartridge. Yep, spring just collapsed. The Sig locked the slide back every other shot (and it wasn't my thumb, I've already worked that out of my system).

I've never seen CTD sell anything but crap, so you probably got USA mags.

Novak's sells REAL MEC-GAR BHP mags for ~ $40 each, last I heard. I bought 4 and got a quantity discount.

Had MecGars for years...good mags. Only ever had one problem w/ one 1911 .45 mag. The mag was purchased new. It had the old style follower before this newest version. The mag would not hold the slide open on the last round. Also, it would not seat properly. I wrote MecGar a letter telling of the problem. Immediately, they responded for me to send the mag in to them that they would replace it. Not only did they replace it, they paid for shipping as well.

So, yes, they are good magazines and if you ever have a problem w/ one, the company will make it right.

Hello, MKII. I'll bet you got ProMag rather than Mec-Gar, the current OEM magazine maker for Browning and others as has been noted.

Cain R: My 9mm STI Trojan came with a Mec-Gar magazine. I bought several more and am most pleased. Work great.

Best.

PS: You can buy the Mec-Gar 9mm magazines from Mec-Gar quite a bit cheaper than the price you mention. If interested, you might click on the link below. ($17.95 in blue and $2 more in nickle.)

They make great mags. I couldn't get a 40 year old Browning Baby 25ACP to work until I got some Mec Gar mags. I trust them.

For BHP the best. 15 round capacity when I got them as opposed to BHP origianals which are 13 rd. Never a FTF. Perfect! .
