I'm seeing alot of responses from people about the Silverado Gunshow at the fairgrounds in Montgomery county MD. Since I live in Silver Spring, (or will be in three weeks), I'm curious as to who else lives in (the socialist republic of) Maryland.

I'm close to MD, but thank God I'm not in MD.

When my former wife and I were looking for a house (we were living in Washington, DC, at the time  ). I made it VERY clear that I had no intention of ever purchasing a house in Maryland.

I'm on the western shore, but am seriously considering trading an hour commute to regain a little freedom.

If you think things in Maryland are bad now wait for the next election for Governor. Two of the leading Democratic candidates, Montgomery County Executive Duncan, who is trying to shut down the gun shows in MC, and Lt. Governor Townsend wil be far worse than Glendening ever was. If Bush does not get a decent vote count in the election then it is doubtful that Erlich will give up a safe Congressional seat to be the Republican candidate for governor. The only good thing about it is that I can retire by then and move out to Arizona.

I lived on MD's eastern shore for 13 years. The shore is much more conservative than the rest of the "Free State". There is even some sucession legeslation that appears from time to time. I have recently moved to Texas. As DZ stated, there"s a lot of work to be done in the land of pleasant living, and can't be done if everyone from that state relocates. Citizens must be informed of the issues and vote. However there is a large social welfare block centered around Baltimore that tends to swing most elections in the state toward socialism. I'm considering moving back sometime in the near future. It will be western MD if I do. God's grace to you my friend, Arrell.

"As nightfall does not come at once, neither does oppression.
In both instances there is a twilight when everything remains
seemingly unchanged. And it is in such twilight that we all
must be most aware of change in the air - however slight -
lest we become unwitting victims of the darkness."

I've lived in Montgomery County for about a year now. It's funny: I'm from Hawaii, which has some really bad gun laws, but in many ways I find Maryland worse. It's not so much the laws as it is the attitudes. Maryland has a lot of very elitist lefties who control too much of the political debate. Hawaii has that problem also, but the people are getting fed up. If you can find it, read the September issue of "Chronicles". There's a short piece about recent anti-gun activity in Hawaii and how the people rose up to defend their RKBA. For example, when the legislature held open hearings, NINE TIMES as many pro-gun people showed up as did antis.
I look forward to going back and helping to fight the good fight myself.

I lived in Maryland (Darenstown) all my life before I came to college.

As much as it pains me to say it, MD is a lost cause. The statist powerbrokers are so entrenched in the state and local government that nothing short of a firehose enima could dislodge them. Hell, we can't even get a better Republican than Connie Morella elected. Even most of the gun owners in Maryland are of the caged-bird-hunt, Fox sidelock, Range-Rover set.

Hence, I'm casting about for a new place to land. Anyone in Arizona, Texas, Idaho, Montana, etc. want to hire a EET grad?

Later,
Chris

I'm in Harford County and would be out of here in a heartbeat if it weren't for the family. Every legislative session brings more restrictive gub laws. Still, Baltimore has, I believe, the highest murder rate in the country. Of course the answer to this will be even more gun laws.

>>Still, Baltimore has, I believe, the highest murder rate in the country. Of course the answer to this will be even more gun laws.<<

And they have one of the worst drug problems in the country. Of course, that means more drug laws. Which are just as effective as gun laws.

I live in northern Silver Spring. At least MD is a small step up from DC. In addition to TRT, there are other pro-gun groups in MD. www.MCSM.org is fairly active. Drop me an e-mail when you get settled.

I'm in Columbia,,and oft work in both DC and B-More. The problem is simple. The sheep believe regulating the sheepdogs will regulate the wolves.....
