The Montgomery County Chapter is sponsoring a peaceful protest to express concern about the sale of handgun and assault style weapons on the County fairgrounds. Basically, we want the fairgrounds management to reconsider and voluntarily discontinue this practice. The Montgomery Co. Chapter is asking all Metropolitan Region MMMers and others to join in this
demonstration.

The protest is on October 21 from 10:00 to 12:00 noon. Demonstrators will meet at 10:00 a.m. on the sidewalk off of 355 and Montgomery Village Avenue near the shopping center and Burlington Coat Factory. If you have additional questions, please email you phone number and I will have the

Media Advisory

NON-PARTISAN CIVIL RIGHTS DEMONSTRATION

Montgomery County, Maryland - A grassroots coalition of Democrats, Republicans, Independents, Libertarians, plus members of the Constitution, Green and Reform Parties will be holding a non-partisan civil rights demonstration in support of gun shows. This event shall be outside the Montgomery County Fairgrounds entrance near 7 Dalamar Street and North Frederick Avenue (Route 355) in Gaithersburg, Maryland on Saturday, October 21, 2000 at 8:30 a.m.

Self-serving grandstanding by local and state politicians in their blatant moves to ban guns shows has both inflamed and united civil rights advocates among law-abiding gun owners and their supporters. Also, recent media slurs and legislative assaults on the civil rights of Maryland gun owners have resulted in a political backlash from grassroots 2nd Amendment supporters whose presence at the polls will make history in this year's presidential election. This last-minute demonstration has been organized in response to the anti-gun Misled Mom March (a.k.a. "Million Mom March") wing of the Clinton/Gore legacy campaign's recent actions advocating the de facto banning of gun shows in Maryland.

Press is invited.

dz - Banzai! W&F time.

I'm sipping a Black Star "Double Hopped" Black Lager now and I can tell you, after reading your post, that beer ain't the only thing that's Double Hopped.

Well done, gentlemen!

Gentlemen,

You are to be commended.

I tried to get over there to participate, but it just didn't work out, for which I am very sad.

Approximately what was the strength of each group?

Any inter-group yelling back and forth?

Any media presence for either group?

Mike Irwin;

There were about 20 -25 of them and 40 -50 of US. Channel 7 (ABC) had a cameraman there earlier at our demonstration and later at the MMM's. I did not see him when we arrived. The Gazette, which started this whole thing, had a reporter and a cameraman there towards the end. It will be interesting to see how they spin it.

Should be some pictures out soon.

Sorry you couldn't make it.

Mike K

The Gazette didn't start the whole thing. My info is that everyone concerned knew all about the gun shows being held at the Montgomery Co. fairgrounds. But someone informed Glendening that the last show had people passing out anti-gun law, anti-Glendening and pro-Republican literature, and Parris went ballistic and ordered his minions to shut down gun shows as he wants NO opposition to his dictatorship.

All political from a bunch of scared Hitler wannabees who are afraid of the people and, like Hitler, want to make sure only their loyalists are armed.

Jim

considerin that the Gunshow has billboards up on major roads, i doubt the masters did not know about them.

well we just got burned by Channel 7 news

they had a 20 second spot showing the MMM & discussed the fairground & tax money
they showed us from a distance & didn't mention we were counter protesters
you could not read any of our signs & the way it was presented it looked like we were with the MMM

dZ

tactically the MMM made a big error,
they set up next to the fence and when we showed up, we took over the sidewalk.

they scurried about, next to the fence while we
held up "Honk for freedom" signs and controled the foreground

they would chant "Gunshows and fairgrounds dont mix"

i bellowed 10 times louder
i got a bunch of chants rolling and beat on a grout bucket like a colonial neil pert!
(maybe more like bunn e carlos)

They were about 20-25 35-50 year old biddies
we had 40-50

we were much more diverse & in charge.

liberty rocks!

dZ

dz,

Hey man, I didn't know you were on TFL. I was the big guy in the green van. I don't care how the antis twist it, I bet many of those who did show up will never come back for more of that. We need to shut them down every time.

When we marched down to see the MMMrs I heard one lady say, I’m leaving, and she did. The part I really love is when the folks who supposedly hate guns call the cops on us don’t they know cops carry guns!!!!! We have some great pictures.

dz, as soon as I get mine scanned in I will send you the one with you laying in front of the SAS banner. It turned out to be a great shot.

It was terrific to meet everyone, let’s keep the pressure on and turn it around on them. We can start the fires and let them try to put them out.

The WJLA TV7 report was extemely skewed, with no mention of you guys (was hoping to catch a glimpse of you after months of lurking here). Kinda funny visual image of the MM's though, stumbling across a field or dirt road.

The news anchor blurted out a stat I never heard before....Something to the effect that "30% of all guns used in violent crimes come from gun shows"

Channel 4's (NBC in DC) 6 PM news was equally biased. They showed a gaggle (maybe a dozen or so) of morom mommies, babbled about the (in)appropriateness of gun shows on public facilities, etc. No mention or glimpse of counter demonstrators. These sheeple are sooooo disgusting.

Cheers to ya, dZ & associates, and thank you for your efforts on the behalf of Freedom.

While he's certainly the greatest percussionist in history, ex-Libertarian Neil Pe(A)rt is a supporter of banning guns. LEt's not mention him in this forum.

Demand the source of this info, find a lawyer, and have the show promoter file suit for libel, slander, defamation, etc.

Even if they lose, it will cost the station a ton of $$ for discovery and pre-trial.

Do it EVERY Time they open their fat yaps.
The war has begun.

You can write/phone/email WJLA at: http://www.wjla.com/content2.cfm?s=3&rbar=0

Ch. 4 is at: http://www.nbc4.com/tvsd/email/index.shtml

Sic 'em!

It might seem senseless to tilt these cyber-windmills, but, as with the antis, these people have had a free ride for too long. It's time to turn up the heat. One call/email represents 1000 couch potatoes.

Thanks to the above members, I used their info as follows (CH 4 got a blast also):

"Gentlemen:

Is it any wonder the public distrusts the media? I suspect Josef Goebbels' ghost is smiling and muttering "You have learned well, grasshoppers", while the public mutters "intellectual whores for the government".

I refer to your totally slanted coverage of the above event. You showed a short clip, mentioned both the MMMs and the tax money/faigrounds connection.

Gun owners' tax dollars support that facility as well, dammit, so what gives you or the MMMs the right to deny them? Especially in light that nothing illegal has ever happened in that tightly-controlled environment.

Not only was nothing said about the counter-protestors, (who outnumbered the MMMs 2 to 1) you took a long range shot so that no one could read their signs and made it look like they were part of the MMM crowd.

Jesus, don't any of you people have a sense of professionalism?

WJLA joins WRC as this month's nominee for the Josef Goebbels Excellence in Propaganda award. Come to think of it, your call letters should be WHCI (as in Handgun Control, Inc.)

Intellectual whores indeed!

In disgust, etc."

UPDATE:

With apologies to the TRT folks, go HERE to see pictures of the event.

I must say - it was a great day to get out and really wail on the Mommies - figuratively of course.

I arrived and went directly to the MMM's area and didn't meet up with the pro-gun supporters beforehand. There were 3or 4 pro-gun guys there that were quiet and not really saying anything as the Mom's marched up and down the road.

I immediately got out of my car and went right up there yelling, shouting, heckling and cajoling the Silly Mom's. I must say they were quite taken aback with the ferocity of my taunting.

"You Mom's are Nazis and Fascists!"

"Every victim of the Holocaust has people just like you to thank for their deaths."

"Gun Control Kills Kids!"

Etc. Etc .

They did indeed step back when I got on the scene. Several pro-gun people - perhaps from the gunshow itself - asked to to calm down. I refused and kept up my assault on the Mom's

After their initial shock they began to get their little smug smiles on their faces because they had us outnumbered about 20 to 4 at that point. I kept up my attack however.

And then a wonderful thing happened. As I was shouting at them I heard a single drum note resound. I heard it again - and again. I looked up the road and to my delight and profound joy - I saw around 50 pro-gun marchers led by a drummer with a Tyranny Response Team Shirt on and closely followed by the Second Amendment Sisters.

You should have seen the look on the Mom's faces when they saw the body of gun supporters come around that bend. It was priceless. The smug faces fell, their bodies drooped and sagged as they realized their defeat. It was great!

I joined my brethren in freedom and a great day was had by all as we taunted and shouted at the Million Mom's as waved to passing motorists.

Also - it is true that the Mom's ended up against the chain-link fence and we manned the sidewalk - No one could even see them after we showed up!

Of course the press made no mention of us - not that we expected them to.

Glad I was there!!

Bills would ban gun shows on Park and Planning land

by Myra Mensh Patner
Staff Writer

Oct. 20, 2000

State lawmakers are working on legislation to end gun shows in Montgomery and
Prince George's counties, targeting shows at fairgrounds and publicly owned
facilities.

State Sen. Ida G. Ruben (D-Dist. 20) of Silver Spring said Thursday she hopes to see
two gun-related bills enacted when the General Assembly meets in January.

Rubin has been talking with colleagues in the Montgomery and Prince George's
delegations to co-sponsor a bill to end gun shows on all property owned by the
bi-county Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission. Both counties'
delegations would have to agree on the bill for it to pass the legislature.

She also plans to work with Sen. Brian E. Frosh (D-Dist. 16) of Chevy Chase on a bill
that would stop giving state money to public and private groups that offer gun shows.

Ruben said the first bicounty bill would end gun shows that since 1993 have taken
place at Show Place Arena, a Park and Planning-owned property in Upper Marlboro.

The three shows a year at Show Place Arena are the biggest in a series of gun
shows across the lower end of Maryland organized by Frederick-based Frank
Krasner of Silverado Promotions. He has declined comment.

Krasner attracts up to 5,000 customers at the Prince George's County shows. His
next show at Show Place Arena is set for Nov. 11-12, with future dates scheduled for
February, July and November 2001.

The lawmakers are not opposed to Krasner, who is credited by State Police officials
with running tight shows and reporting suspicious or illegal activities, but with gun
shows in general.

State Sen. Arthur Dorman (D-Dist. 21) of Beltsville concurred with the Montgomery
lawmakers, saying, "I'm opposed to having gun shows on public properties."

Ruben said the second bill she hopes to work on would coincide with efforts by
Frosh, who has said he would like to make it impossible for a repeat of the $400,000
bond legislators passed in 1998 to pay for improvements at the Montgomery County
Agricultural Center and Fairgrounds in Gaithersburg without knowing about the gun
shows.

The next Montgomery County fairgrounds gun show -- also organized by Krasner -- is
Saturday and Sunday. Another one is set for Jan. 6-7.

Montgomery County Executive Douglas M. Duncan (D) on Tuesday also targeted gun
shows at the fairgrounds by asking Gaithersburg Mayor Sidney Katz to enact a law
similar to the county's 1997 Gun-Free Zones bill.

The law prohibits the sale of guns within 100 yards of a place of public assembly.

Because the county fairgrounds are within the city limits of Gaithersburg, a
municipality, county law does not apply. Municipalities in Montgomery County are
self-governing; each must adopt the county's laws if they are to apply within the
municipality's borders.

Katz said Thursday he would publicly announce Duncan's request at the Nov. 6 City
Council meeting.

Katz said no public hearing or vote will take place until the city attorney reviews the bill
and makes a recommendation.

If Gaithersburg adopts the county law, that would ease the burden on the shoulders
of the Montgomery fairgrounds' board of directors, said attorney James Clifford, who
represents the private, nonprofit group that owns and operates the fairgrounds.

Clifford said the board feels caught in a national controversy that is not of its making.

"It's a hot potato. Nobody seems to be able to handle this," he said Thursday. "If
somebody could do something on this, it takes the fairgrounds out from between a
rock and a hard place. We have no business being the arbiter of these things."

Frosh and Sen. Leonard H. Teitelbaum (D-Dist. 19) of Silver Spring earlier this month
told the board of directors to stop booking gun shows or face possible action by the
General Assembly.

Clifford said the fairgrounds' board plans to attend this weekend's show and have
lunch with Frosh and Teitelbaum next week to discuss the issue.

"We're trying to get political advice," Clifford said.

Clifford also said the legal issues could be large. "I don't know that, constitutionally,
anybody can move to make it illegal."

House Speaker Casper R. Taylor Jr. (D-Dist. 1C) of Cumberland told The
Washington Times on Thursday that any move to close down Krasner's business
concerns him.

"On the surface, it sounds so far-reaching, it could be an infringement on his
constitutional rights," he said.

Ruben said she has requested a letter from the state legislative office on whether the
bills she is considering are constitutional.
