MD Labs has recently come out with something new for 1911s, glass epoxy composite stocks! We have started production on a run of MDL GunGrips™ that offer a “state of the science” handgun grip for real world users. GunGrips™ are made from the same MD Labs proprietary glass epoxy composite used for the handle of the Mad Dog Navy SEAL A.T.A.K. knife.
Gun Grips™ offer the following advantages over stocks made from conventional low tech materials like stag, ivory, wood, micarta and carbon fiber.
* Waterproof
* Highly resistant/impermeable to commonly encountered chemicals and liquids- Diesel fuel, gasoline, and other petroleum based products, insect repellent, bore solvents and other gun cleaning chemicals
* Will not support combustion
* Will not support bacterial or fungal growth
* Impervious to sweat and salt water
* Enhanced hand filling ergonomics without extra thickness
* Contoured thumb relief for magazine release button
* Relieved corners for easy removal of mainspring housing pin
* 79,000psi compressive yield strength- provides increased user safety in the event of overpressure ammunition
* Extreme shock resistance with high strength and durability
* Will not shrink, crack, split, or shatter
* 303 stainless steel locating bushings
* Readily sterilized by wiping with a household bleach solution
* High performance under extreme temperatures, withstands boiling water easily
* Unaffected by extreme cold
* Excellent tactile characteristics in hot and cold weather, wet or dry
* Low coefficient of thermal conductivity
* High UV resistance and color stability
Another attribute that you will appreciate is the fact that the GunGrips are actually FLAT on the mounting surface, so they fit the weapon without mods or excess screw tension/tweaking like those consistantly prewarped (due to the polyester shrinking after it is *cast* in place) Brand X grips seem to require.
The GunGrips radii on the edges are recontoured to a more hand filling and pointable shape.
Gun Grips™ are currently available for Colt Government, Commander and 1911 clones.
Available finishes:
Matte bead blast finish as on the Mad Dog SEAL A.T.A.K. Presentation grade hand polished, high gloss finish
We have added two new no cost options...
1- For our portside oriented friends, the oft requested ambi safety relief.
2- We are also offering a GunGrips model cut to accomodate the Smith and Alexander mag well.
There will be NO extra charge for either option, they can be had on either the ATAK style or hand polished finish. Both options will be available from stock. Please specify at the time of your order which configuration you desire.
S&A cut with ambi relief will be a no extra charge special order.
