I'm selecting a few bullets to try on my friend's Armalite Ultramatch rifle. It has a 24", 1 in 10" heavy barrel,
and it is extremely accurate with 55gr. bullets. I would like to know what is the maximum bullet weight (in
spitzer and SBT configuration) this 1-10" barrel can handle. Thanks in advance!!

Rube, you SURE??????

It's got a 1-10 twist???
Is it sposed to be a .223??..or what??.
Seen 1-14, 1-11, 1-8, 1-9, 1-7, never a 1-10........
Maybe so, I ain't no AR spurt...........

Hi Tshoes!! I have not measured the barrel twist rate, but it is marked as 1 in 10". See their web site: http://www.olyarms.com , "tech info":
"ULTRAMATCH BARRELS: Our broached barrels have a standard twist rate of 1x10. Alternative twist rates on these barrels include; 1x8.5, 10, and 14".
I guess there are more twist rates available, and over a broader range, for .223 rifles than for any other caliber: 1-7", 1-7.7", 1-8", 1-8.5", 1-9", 1-10", 1-11", 1-12", 1-14", and probably more.

AR 15 1-10

Rube, On the 1-10 twist AR, I think the 1-10 will allow you to shoot up to MAYBE 69 grains accurately.
The faster the twist on the AR's the larger the bullets allowed............1-7 thru 1-9.......
1-10 thru 1-14 are/have been traditionally used for the 55's and down to .40's.
This is the extent of my knowledge on AR's...as far as twist rtes and bullets.
I would suggest calling the Sierra Tech Line, or going to their website, and sending them an e mail.....they won't guess.
Good to see you, er' hear, er', read you!!!!!!!!:D

a buddy of mine has that same gun and we shoot 1/2 MOA out to about 400yds with it using Fed Gold Medal match 69 grain. after about 400 the groups start gettting closer to 1 moa and then 2 moa, still good for an autoloader i think.
