Maverick Bolt-Actions

Okay, I've had great luck with Mossberg/Maverick shotguns..but rifles? I've heard good and bad about their rifles. Anyone here have one? Any good?

I'm looking at picking up one of their .243 Maverick bolt-actions for coyote and possibly deer if I ever go somewhere that allows rifles.

Did you float it? Or do anything else to it or shoot it stock?

wow...figured someone would have tried one atleast....this may be my deciding point against one. Or if I get one I'll be sure to review it in length here.

I have the youth model in 243. I got it at academy and it did not come with the proper recoil pad to adjust the legnth of pull. I went by the Mossberg factory in Eagle Pass, TX (about 45 miles from me) and when I told them what had happened, they gave me the correct pad, as well as the one I already had and a bag full of goodies (gun magazines and stickers) with an apology for it not being in the box. Very good customer service. As far as the rifle itself, it is very finicky and took about 5 different tries with reloads before it shot worth a darn. Found a load it likes and will group 1.5 inch consistently. I stopped there as it is for my kids and they will not shoot further than 100 yards. Federal 100 grain blue box and hornady light mag were 3 inch groups. May try adding pressure points later to see if that helps with accuracy.

Got to take a peek at one the other day...made me put it on my to buy list. The sad thing is it would be just a gopher/coyote destroyer as rifles aren't legal for anything else here in Northern Indiana....but hey if we only bought based on practicality I'd only have like 2. :D

Tny...

I have not shot one, but have sold more than 100... I have yet to have a client complain about the rifle... They are not fancy, but they get the job done...

If you would like me to price one out for you and see if we can save you a little money, let me know...

Mossberg has always made good firearms. They may not be fancy but they do work well. If it were a choice of shotgun between Mossberg and Savage, I would opt for the Mossberg. With the new savage rifles, I would take one of them over the Mossberg. Just personal experience and preference.
