Found the card that came with my Argentine Mauser the other day. It says Cal. 7.65!
That means it’s supposed to be a 194.31mm. Quite a large round for a shoulder fired rifle.

In fact a 7.65 is just over 30 cal.
Come out to around .3011, thought it was interesting that I never noticed.

When Argentina adopted the Mauser as ordnace the 7.65 mm (caliber, which can be expressed in millimeters as well as decimals of an inch: .45 comes out as '11.25')was selected - it was also used by Norway. Its not a typo, the round is still made - by Norma and more recently here in Argentina - by the local military factory - "Fabricaciones Militares".

During World War One german infantry units were issued a 12.7mm Mauser bolt action rifle to use against the early British tanks. It often worked, but the German soldiers did not like it. They said "it killed at both ends."
