Mauser (modern) handgun?

Well, maybe I am talking through my hat here, but I recently saw a semi-auto handgun labelled "Mauser" in a gunshop display case. It was a nice modern, chunky black piece, we're not talking broomhandles here. I don't know the caliber and I didn't ask. I didn't think much of it at the time but I looked on the web and I don't see references to Mauser pistols.

It was a used gun as far as I can tell. Could I have misread the tag or mixed it up?

It was a Mauser M-2. It's got a rotating barrel locking system like the 1912 Steyr-Hahn and the Berreta 8000 Cougar. Good guns by all accounts that I've seen, but I've never shot one.

Bingo! I did a search with "M2" and yes, that's the one.

Thanks,

I have one in 45ACP and so far it has been great! After 535 rounds it has never had any a single malfunction of any kind. It's accurate and will eat anything I feed it. The recoil is remarkably lite for a 45ACP, even with +P loads. At $419 including 2 mags and a case it has been a very very good buy. At least so far..

Mesa isn't the safty for the M-2 on the BACK of the slide?

That seems like a broken thumb waiting to happen.

Yeah Notbubba, it is on the back. So far it hasn't been a problem but I would say that the safetys location is the one negative thing I have found about the M2. What a strange place for a safety. Actually, it makes it really easy to "snick" the safety off really qucikly on the draw, but I also feel like it's a bit too easy. I have a class coming up soon so I guess when we do drills and stuff it will show up as a help or hinderence. Hopefully, it won't be at the expense of a thumb though!
