Mauser Model 96-Straight Pull...Opinions?

Hello and Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays to all,

This is my first post to this forum. Greetings. I have read posts on here many times in my research and appreciate the wealth of information here. I'm just looking for some opinions on an odd rifle.

I was offered a great deal on a near mint Mauser Model 96 in 30/06, with the straight pull bolt. It uses 16 locking lugs, and I'm told it is a very strong action, it just never caught on here. I love Mausers, I own a couple custom M
98's and variants, I've never seen one of these though. Worth a try? Accurate? I appreciate your opinions.

Been interested in these myself.
I've heard very positive reviews of them, as you'd expect...
Only "fault" I've read about is the triggers aren't so great.

For some reason, they just never caught on here and were discontinued after a couple of years I believe. Probably due to the price...

Same concept, but completely different animal than the Blaser.

Mauser '96 vs. Winchester '70

Does anyone feel this 96 Mauser rifle is a wise purchase vs. an early '70's Winchester 70 Magnum in 7mm Rem Mag? I'm looking for something for Elk. The mint condition Mauser 96, at $500, is also $100 less than the Winchester 70. I like the Winchester 70 and am very familiar with it (I own one already I'd never sell), but it is about 85% condition due to some stock dings/scratches....hard to decide. Which gun do you think is a better "deal"?

Anyone own one of these straight pull Mausers?

Great rifles, a bit overpriced IMO, but great rifles nonetheless. The price is a factor of exchange rates and expensive German labor, but the Mauser 96 is a very nice rifle.

I am pretty sure they are a lot like a BLASER 93 Rifle?

I saw one and handled it a few years ago but I cant remember if they are exactly like a BLASER 93 Rifle but I would probably buy one in a heart beat. If you can get one for around the price of a Model 70 then go for it well worth the money and very sort after and collectable. A couple of good friends (with more money then they know what to do with) have the Blaser 93's and they are one sweet rifle (light and very well balanced) just beautiful rifle to shoot.
