Mauser, Mauser, Mauser ???

I've been thinking about getting a Yugo Mauser for some time now. I would like it to be a shooter and not just a collector's piece. What's the difference between the three types of Mausers that AIM has on sale currently? In Excellent condition, they list a model 24/47 for $90, a Model 48 for $110, and an M48 for $150. All three models supposedly have matching serial numbers for the bolt and receiver.

The 24/47 sure looks like the better deal. It even comes with a few more accessories. Am I missing something here?

Also, for the Mauser-ites out there, what do you usually pay for 8mm rounds? Are they usually corrosive, non-corrosive?

Swampy,

You misspelled "swampworks" but I got there anyway: http://www.swampworks.com/SwampysStuff-1.html Nice looking rifle and a lucky buy. Looks unissued to me. If that's just "excellent" condition, I'll eat my hat.

I'm curious to hear from anyone who has a 24/47. Also, where do you get your 8mm ammo, and how much does it run?

Guyon,

YOu are right, the rifle I received was definitely unissued. Like my website said, the bore was still blued, and there were NO wear marks inside the action.

The kicker here is that AIM has never advertised or offered these rifles as "unissued", only "excellent". If you call them, they may admit that a good number of the rifles are indeed unissued, but they probably won't guarantee that you will get one....

In any case, AIM has a rep for underrating their rifles condition. I have yet to hear of somebody complaining that the condition of a C&R they got from AIM was less than advertised. If you order one from them that is graded "excellent", it may or may not be "unissued", but it will be AT LEAST "excellent".

guyon,

Forgot... re ammo: I also bought the 1956 Romanian 8mm from AIM. They are out as of a few weeks ago. The Romanian is getting pretty scarce. Most supplier seem to be out and nobody seems to know if or when any more will be coming in.

I just got a 900 rd. tin of 1955 Yugo 8mm from Coles. Most guys give it a good report, but I've not had the chance to try any yet.

Good luck,
Swampy
