Mauser M2

Just read an article in the Oct. issue of Shooting Times on the Mauser M2 pistol. It has my interest, Does anyone here own one? and what are your thoughts?
I'd be interested in getting one in .357 sig since I don't have one in my collection.
The article says that the .357 is available but Sigs web page doesn't mentiion it.
Well anyway what are your thoughts? Inquiring minds want to know ;)

Too thick, too many safeties, terrible trigger. Handled one, wasn't impressed. In other words, Mauser screwed up and will not be getting my business this time 'round.

Yeah, what the Inspector said. After handling it, only the new Beretta 9000 seems to have poorer ergonomics. It's also designed to "only" have about a 20,000 round lifespan, which may be 19,500 more than most people need, but it's something to consider.

Thanks for the heads up guys, I doesn't seem to have such a good reputation so far. And with comparing it to a Beretta 9000,
Well enough said, I had looked at one of them and really thought that they were real stinkers ;)

LoknLoad, I bought one 6 months ago. I like it, it fits my hand well. As far as trigger pull, I like it (8lbs. DAO). I talked to SIG on the phone, they said 357 will not be made in the forseeable future. I know most auto guys are used to 2-3lb. pull, I'm used to 14lb. sp101 revolver. It isn't a gun I use in IDPA shoots, but it is a reliable defense gun. It seems to eat anything I feed it.
The only hitch is lubrication; if the slide gets really dry it will start sticking a little. I posted on that concern a while ago.

Bottom line: $1500 Kimber it ain't, but for $300 out the door(including 2 mags & a box of ammo) I'm happy.:)

Well guys thanks for the input, Since I can't get it in .357 sig I guess I will have to look elsewhere. I was really interested in it since they said in the article it came in the .357. :)

I don't understand why Sig made the M2 when it only has a 20,000 round lifespan while most Sigs last longer. I don't understand why the M2 doesn't have the usual Sig lifespan.

I had one. It actually felt very good in my hand despite being fat. Because of its thickness, it probably isn't a good choice for concealment.

It had shot without a problem at all when I fired it. Accuracy was average. Recoil was acutally not too bad most probably due to the large surface area of the grip.

The things I didn't like about it were the rotating bolt lock-up which, IMO, is not as good as some of the other locking methods in terms of accuracy. Looong DA trigger. The additional sets for dissasembly. The long lever on the left side lowers the sear, or whatever Mauser calls that thingy that draws back the stiker, to prevent it from obstructing the slide when taking the gun appart. To do so, you have to lock the slide back, raise the lever (lower the sear) push out the slide stop from right to left. Pushing the slide stop out will confuse a few people at first as it must be raised into the slide stop notch slightly before it can be pushed out to clear the frame as there is a notch in it. Not doing so will keep the stop from coming out and frustrate some (including myself) due to what initially appears to be a stuck slide stop. Also, when reassembling, the lug of the rotating barrel must be in just the right position to allow the slide assembly to go back onto the frame. In the end a little more work than I care to do and unnecessarily complicated.

Forgot to mention, the Taurus PT145 has been getting good reviews here on TFL. I got to look at one recently (last Thurs.). The grip is increadibly comfortable, and felt very similar in dimensions to my SIG P226. 10 rounds of .45ACP in the grip too!

There was a very large opening on the left of the slide that allowed you to see into the gun but don't think it will hurt the gun any other than looks. The sample I saw, however, did show a little surface rust inside the barrel and a ding or gouge towards the muzzle on the outside (about ¼" from the muzzle). Not sure were that was from. Never the less, I will be getting one.
