Mauser M2

Seeing posts about the Steyr S and Steyr L (is the L a certainty?) made me wonder about the Mauser M2.

At first I wasn't too interested, since I expected it to be expensive, but I just saw mention that the MSRP will be $479.

Other interesting specs:

alloy framed, not polymer

rotary locking, I believe, maybe like the Beretta Cougar

calibers announced are .45, .40 and .357, no 9mm!

The ads always say something about DAO, so I think that will be the case. Whether it is a true DAO or a DAO like the Glock, I don't know. The trigger is very straight up and down though, which might imply to me that it's not going to feel like a DA revolver.

There is also mention of some sort of optional manual safety, I believe, but I have no idea what this refers to.

A past issue of American Rifleman had an article on it. www.sigarms.com and www.mauserpistols.com have some info and I think you can download the aforementioned article at one of them.

I've actually handled the .45 version, didn't get to shoot it unfortunately. DAO, smooth about 8.5 pounds; no second strike capability. Manual safety on the back of the slide is supposed to be optional. The one I handled had the safety and it was small and one could just leave it off and not worry about it getting in the way, though I'd prefer not to have it.

Magazine safety is the one thing I don't like on it. Rotating barrel like on the Beretta Cougar. Comfortable ergonomics, we'll just have to see how it performs. Supposedly already been shipped to dealers but I haven't seen any for sale yet. Should be inexpensive.
