Mauser Kar-98 Q's

Hi, I've always had an interest in World War II weapons, and I am looking into buying my first, a Mauser Kar-98. I have been looking at many online shops, and it seems that K-98's were made in many different countries in Europe. I was wondering if the country of origen matters when buying a K-98. Is it safe to buy one of these online without handling it. Also is there any important information I should find out about the gun before buying?

The problem with WWII firearms is that in Germany quality decreased greatly as the war progressed.M98s were made by different companies and in different countries .

K.98k's were made only in Germany, Austria, and Czechoslovakia. Since the latter two countries were part of Germany at the time, it is really accurate to say that K.98k's were made only in Germany. They were not made anywhere else, though some parts were made in other occupied countries. Rifles such as the Czech Vz-24 are short rifles based on the Mauser Model 1898 action, but are not true K.98k's.

In spite of ads in the gunzines, no K.98k's were made in Yugoslavia, and the Yugoslav Model 48 is not a standard Mauser, is not a K.98k, is not German, was not made on German machinery and was not made or used in WWII.
