Who has the best deal on Mauser k-98 and does anyone have experience with them?

When guns are outlawed only outlaws will have guns.

I bought one from Aim Surplus (www.aimsurplus.com) a few months ago. It was $89.95. It is a German K98 that had had most of its German marking ground off by Yugoslavia (not the neatest job of it either). But it is a solid gun in nice condition. I'm very happy with it.

I think the reason you have so few responses is your question isn't very clear. Are you specifically looking for a German Mauser (you said K98)? There are also Swede, Yugoslavian, Turk, Czech and others out there, which have different model numbers. The Czech Mausers and Turk Mausers are often on sale at Big 5 for about $60, but have usually seen heavy use. The Yugo Mausers are closer to $150, but some of them were unissued.

Are you specifically looking for C&Rs? J&G Sales has good deals on Mausers, if you are.

Are you looking for general information on Mausers? If so, check out Tuco's Mauser Forum at http://www.paradise-web.com/plus/plus.mirage?who=tuco11&all=yes

I picked up a Yugo Mauser from Aim,and the in my hands price was $192.00.This is a brand new 50 year old rifle! Its MINT! :)

Hi, Gunfighter,

Do you mean a German K98k rifle, or just a Model 1898 Mauser. A K98k, matching, with all original markings can easily run over $400. Most of these are GI "bringback" war souvenirs.

But K98k's that were seized by the Yugoslavs, with Nazi markings obliterated and bolts not matching are on the market for about $80. Czech-made VZ (Model) 24 rifles (also 1898 action) are available for $70 or less. Turkish rifles with 1898 actions are also on the market for around $50. All of these have seen heavy use and some barrels are in pretty bad shape. All I have seen headspaced to spec (even with mismatched bolts) and were safe to fire.

Swedish rifles are very nice, but are the older Mauser action, which is not as strong as the 1898 action. But Sweden did not fight a war, and the vast majority of these rifles are in excellent condition, with good bores.

I want a shooter in 8 MM with good wood and bore. I have a nice Swrdish Mauser but it to expensive to shoot all the time. Thanks for all the help.

I have a VZ24. The wood is nice, but the bore is fouler than a sailor's mouth, uglier than Hillary Clinton first thing in the morning, dirtier than Bill Clinton's mind, darker than Al Gore's heart... oh well, you get the idea.

You might have better luck than me with the Czechs or the Turks, but most that I've seen are equally nasty. But what can you expect for $50-70?
