Mauser envy

I have been quite satisfied with my 5.56mms for a while. I like the little round for it's flat trajectory, compact size for carrying.
Then my girlfriend, aka DuckHunt, suddenly buys a Turkish Mauser.

"That's great honey!" I say. The rifle is in great shape, has Arabic script all over it, emblazioned with little crescents on all metal parts.
Then I look at the rounds...
I hold the big 8mms next to my 5.56s...
So small! Tiny! Ludicrous!
After handling the Mauser a while, checking it's balance, etc, I pick up my little carbine. It feels like a toy!

So now I have to get a Mauser in 8mm. I simply can't take my 5.56 seriously anymore.

Shin-Tao,

You want a real treat? Poke around and dig up a VZ-24 BRNO Mauser Carbine. They have been popping up at places like Big 5 sports for anywhere between $49 and $69! I have bought several, converted a few, and restored two back to original condition. I make the guys at B5 dig around their shipments for the ones with the Czech Royal Lion Crest.

These are really hardy rifles, shoot those big old testosterone inducing 8mm rounds. And are pretty darn accurate to boot. For the price, you simply can not go wrong! Talk about bang for your buck! :D

Shin-Tao, can your bragging about the girlfriend. Some of are are getting damn envious.

BTW, the one down side to Mausers is the V-notch rear sight. You can get a variety of aperture sights for them which would makes a big improvement in sighting speed and sight radius.

A carbine in 8mm would be fun. I could get a synthetic stock, add a taclight and suppresor, and get all tactical about it!

Well, not really. No synthetic for my Mauser.

How long are barrels on those carbines?

Get the Check if you are going for Mauser.MAny fun cheap guns out there.Enfields in .303 cheap and fun, enfields in .308(india) are fun.I have 2.There is just something about the old bolt action rifles that are a turn on.Balance or something.Maybe it is because these guns where made for RIFLEMAN.
