Mauser comparison

I have a Yugo M48. It's a bit rough, machining-wise, and the barrel is dark and pitted in places (couldn't tell with the cosmoline at the store). It's several notches below the finish quality from my Polish M44, but I couldn't tell you how it stacks up against the German K98.

The sights on all of these Mausers are terrible. They sit very low and are shaped weird. Given that, and with $2/70rnds Turkish surplus ammo, I was regularly drilling a 6" steel plate at 140yds at Burro Canyon a few weeks ago. Not too bad considering the goobers 3 tables down from me couldn't hit it with a scoped Remington [yeah, I know I should have taken it away from them :)].

For the $140 I paid for it, I consider it money well spent.

Many of the rifles being sold as Yugo Model 48's are German K.98k's with the original markings removed. I have not seen an actual Model 48 for quite a while. The 48A's seem to be Yugo post-war made K.98k copies. They are OK, but not as slick as a good VZ-24 or early K.98k.
