ammo first

Just got in 1 turk and 1 yugo m48 ( the yugo is beautiful) Never dissasembled Rifle before. To get these rifles totaly clean will I have to completely dissasemble them? yes (covered in cosmo) Also Need to know which cleaners will not! hurt the bluing or stock. I've heard scrubbing bubbles (dow bath cleanner or generic equivelent) works well. Need something that won't damage stock or blueing thanks.

I use clear, uncolored dishwashing liquid.

Interesting note on how much the soldiers didn't care: I asked one of my neighbors, a WWII vet, what they used. He said deisel fuel and gasoline.

The traditional way

was gasoline, but any good solvent should work. I use a mix of mineral spirits, kerosene and lacquer thinner. After all,

THEY'RE MILITARY RIFLES! THEY AINT DELICATE!

Treat them with respect, but don't baby them.

If they've been shot, and I immagine that they have, special attention whould be paid to removing ALL the jacket fouling. The best solvent for that job, after the bore has been degreased, is Hoppe's Benchrest Copper Remover, which can be left to soak the gunk out.

ammo first,

Go to your local hardware store or Wal-Mart and pick up a gallon of Mineral Spirits. $4.00 +/-.

Relatively odorless, cuts cosmoline, grease, and oil and dries to a clean surface.

That and a roll of fairly heavy duty paper towels are all you need.

BTW, for a real good look at my M48-A Mauser and what a beauty it is, go to: www.swampworks.com/SwampysStuff-1.html

It also shoots GREAT. Wish all my rifles were that accurate.
