Mauser action, need country of origin

I was given a Mauser action rifle recently, and I cannot tell the country of origin because it was rebarreled with an aftermarket barrel. The only markings I have found were a stamp on the side of the recoil lug and under the action. Any help will be appreciated. The SN is 2R xxxx.

Thanks!

Burk

I think it is Spanish; I don't see the Swedish knurled cocking piece, and the serial number with a letter is common on Spanish rifles. If so, and if it has been re-barreled, the owner kept it in the original caliber, not a bad choice. The bolt handle is a commercial replacement.

Let's see: small ring Mauser, model 1893 bolt shroud, Spanish flaming bomb proofmark. Hmmmmm. Must be Swedish!
It appears you have a Spanish-made model 1893 Mauser. Depending on the vintage, it could be from a 1916 short rifle, but you will never know. Be nice to it.

I agree with James, and Scorch, Spanish 1893 rifle or carbine, could be a 1916 Pattern 2, as many were devoid of markings except for serial # when re-arsonaled.
