Hello,
First post in the forum. I'm a gun enthusiast from Portugal, who has been lurking around here for a while.
I'm not sure if this is the right board for my thread, but here it goes.
I recently aquired a BYF 44 RC 98k. Since I wanted it to be a shooter rather than a collector's piece, and I was buying at distance, I choose it by bore condition and headspace, both of which are great.
My only concern with it is the bolt. It is a kriegsmodell bolt, with round vent holes, no bolt guide and rough, visible machining (lathe) marks.
It shoots great, and I can't really notice the rough bolt finish except when I handle the bolt slowlly. I'm a little afraid that the bolt's texture starts to eat away material from the receiver with use.
Is my concern valid? Could it be a good idea to sand down the machining marks, polish and then cold blue the bolt?
Thanks in advance for any help.
I'll post pictures of the gun later today
