Mauser 98k Model 48...

I just acquired two mauser 98k model 48s and I noticed that where the magazine feds into the gun has a plate screwed over it blocking all mags and making it smooth across the bottom. Has anyone else come across this? I'm new to this type of firearm so if this is a simple or elementary question I apologize in advance but I appreciate the help!

That is called a magazine floorplate. It is the norm on non-detachable box magazines.

By the way, your Model 48 is not a 98k, it is a Model 48.

Thanks for your response, that's kinda what I was thinking but I wanted to make sure. Now I just have to pickup a loading strip. Thanks again.

The "loading strip" is called a charger or a clip or sometimes a "stripper clip." You don't need one to load the magazine, just push the cartridges down into the magazine. It takes five rounds.
