I have a 8mm mauser but dont know the model. I recieved it from a death in the family. Here are the markings 3210 rs on the keft side in 2 places. On the same side were the bolt is ceskoslovenska zbrojovka,as,br with 2 more letters i cant see under that is VZ 24. The bolt is straight with a B8 on it, and under is a N. Lever on bolt says Buehler. Under side has u 61. It also has a crest of what looks like a lion ontop. I hope this is enough. What is it?

vz 24

Thanks for the reply. Is this a 8mm? Is it a model 98 or is vz 24 its model? Can you tell me anything else about it? Whats it worth?

A VZ 24 IS an M-98!
You see, the 98 was made under license in several countries and also made under the management of the Germans in WW2 when they conquered some other countries.
A VZ is a good Mauser. And yes, it's the standard 8mm German Service round.
The value of such a rifle is based on its overall condition. If it's in new/unfired condition is should be worth about $700
If it's got the typical handling dents and scratches in the stock but has a bright shiny bore and about 80% metal finish its worth about $250
If it's got a rough bore it's only worth about $30 to $150 for the action.
The VZ is a good rifle to build custom rifles on, but the cost of the build is as much as buying a new rifle in most cases. I love custom Mausers and to me, there is nothing prettier or better.

Czech built mauser 98, the VZ 24. 7.92x57mm (8mm Mauser, 8x57, etc)
Lever on bolt says Buehler.

The "lever" on the bolt is the safety. Buehler is an aftermarket company who made scope safeties, scope mounts and some other parts. High quality parts. Not sure if they are still in business or not.

Since your rifle has had the safety replaced, its not as desirable to a collector (they want everything original). Current market value is probably $150-250 (for some reason shops selling them seem to think they are worth more:rolleyes:).

Asking price on these old milsuplus rifles has jumped a lot in recent years, dealers are asking a lot for beat up old rifles that weren't worth nearly that much just a few years ago. I got mine (and in really good shape too!) about ten years ago, for $75. Today? double that, and probaly more. Our dollar just ain't buying what it was.

The VZ 24 is well made, and was used extensively by the Germans during WWII. Check the bore carefully, besides the finish, if there is trouble, that's likely where it will be. The ammo used when that rifle was in service was corrosive primed, and (most of the surplus 8mm still is), and if the bore wasn't cleaned properly, rust and pitting results.
