Has anyone had any experience removeing the Matt finish on a revolver .
I have passed on a few good deals because I just do not like this type finish .
If there is a way to remove this finish I could live with the piece in the white .
Has anyone here removed the Matt finish before ? I could use some tips.

Naval Jelly removes bluing quit well. It leaves behind a "French Gray" appearance that can be enhanced by addition coats of Naval Jelly. The Naval Jelly has a chemical reaction to the surface of the metal and leaves a phosphate type finish behind. I have forgotten the name of it, "something phosphate".

I thought that it looked like paint until one poster said that it was bluing applied to a bead blasted finish that saves on polishing time, which makes the Milleniums cheaper to produce.
I don't know if the poster was right but it does strongly resemble the matte finish of a Remington 870 Express which I think is bluing too.

Well guess if its just blueing over a bead blasting it should come off easy enough , with blueing remover .
I`ve never had a chance to inspect one up close , it just looks like a thick finish to me . I figured it was a baked on finish .

the matte finish im familiiar with is on heritage revolvers, it scratches off just like the finish on a marlin blued 336

Alot of people rub the finish down with a fine Scotch-Brite and hit it harder on the hard edges for a antique look. The brass can be rubbed down with a damp cold blue patch if you want a discolored look. Myself I like the matte finish and have applied it tothree different revolvers.

Millineum finish

Hi, I have a 1873 in that finish, it is a sand(or bead blasted)finish, then blued.
it is easier & cheaper to produce, (clean it, blast it, then blue it.) it is basically the same finish on a 870 express, it hides scratches well,

it will require a lot of steel wool work, or sanding, or draw filing, or brush wheel on a grinder to remove the bead blasting to a smooth finish.
