If it's not specifically on the list, it cannot be imported, but you can buy one that's already here.
Any private transactions have to have both people signing in person. So transferring a firearm from a private party is tricky business. Even if it is approved and you buy a gun over the net, the gun is shipped to the dealer here, and he has to sell it retail. In other words, it would be a dealer to dealer sale in internet sales and then the dealer can sell to you. So it must be on the approved list.
This all has probably cut down the sales of guns in Calif. quite a bit, but makes the guns in Calif that are no longer available probably more valuble.
This is my understanding from trying to buy some and talking to dealers. If I'm wrong in this matter, correct me and I will be happy!
Oh, and although I was looking for a particular ruger vaquero, and could not find it on the DOJ approved list, the dealer I spoke to, said that single actions are exempt. So there are probably some guns that while not on the list are OK. It's all so confusing!! I tried to buy a KelTec and they were not importing here. I tried to buy a particular Kahr and although they were selling the M9093's (mk9's) they were not selling the cheaper M9093box (matt black slide version that is 200.00 cheaper than the all stainless model. I found one out of state, but could not import it.
