massively dissappointed/ticked-off by camfour/SW PC

I ordered a brand new M625 Performance Center from Camfour via my local dealer...first dissappointment: they send it "overnight" through US Postal Service...and this time of year that took a good week...and today I get a call that they got it in and I was so excited and went to pick it up and as soon as I laid my hand on the grip I could tell it was real used...the grip was all worn with no gloss, and the pistol itself had brown specs that wouldn't wipe off in each of the flutes on the cylinder...there was no nice shine to it like the other smiths in the store or like the pics I saw online...and there was a loud clanky noise when the hammer fell as opposed to the nice clicky sound of the other regular line smiths there...I mean...the trigger pull on another regular smith I tried in the store felt smoother than this performance center...for the $925 that they were charging me I really expected a much nicer well finished better conditioned-looking piece of steel...every other smith in the place looked better...regular line or performance center...it just looked so dull and used...and the guy behind the counter told me "you don't know what you're talking about, it's just the finish" even when I pointed out the small brown specs at the front of each flute and several other small marks...

am I just imagining things? is this the normal condition of performance center firearms? should I still take it even with all the marks and the look/feel of the grip? it just looked used and beaten up and the brown marks wouldn't come off...two of the other dealers behind the counter said they wouldn't take it...I mean, I expected something with a more well put-together look than your average smith (and the average smith is very nice), but the other smiths just looked even better than this performance center. I dunno...I really had my heart set on this and I had all these accessories comin' in and now I'm afraid I'ma have to wait another week, go through another 5 day waiting period, and return a bunch of accessories if I end up just gettin' another model...

any advice or words would be very appreciated...thanks

If you're not satisfied, why NOT take it back? Hell, I would have sent it back right then and there. Who cares if you have to wait another few days? If you don't like it now you'll be dissapointed until you get rid of it.

I would send it back for the same model in better condition.

Just IMHO.

If I paid $925.00 for a new gun, the thing better look brand spankin' new...I'd send it back and request another one. Take pictures of yours for some backup if anyone gives you a hard time.

For $925.00 absolutely send it back if you are not 100% satisfied.

Without seeing the revolver only speculations can be made. Not all stocks/grips come with a high gloss. Some are purposely dull as the high gloss finish can become slick when they get wet. The dull metal finish is probably the bead blast finish which is designed not to reflect light and create glare. A bead blast finish will show wear and scars as this is just the nature of the beast. The only way to eliminate them is to have the revolver bead blasted again. This finish is only offered on select models. Have you tried cleaning the spots off with a cleaner or solvent? It could be anything including an overspray of lube. For some reason some revolvers have had different sounding hammer fall. It can't be defined as they all function perfectly, but sound differently. As to the trigger pull they don't leave the factory with what one would expect as a great trigger pull (some have said it was a Mass. law). It is known to just send it right back in to the PC shop and complain about the trigger and they will then give it an action job free of charge that will result in the trigger you paid dearly for. You can also complain of the finish and they will bead blast it again for you.
Even though I haven't seen your revolver it does sound like it is just as it should be and you haven't seen another model to compare it to.

Contact the S&W PC. Be vocal but, polite. Insist on a RA and return it for a thorough going over, choose another set of grips, rebead blasting, action job and ask for a holster, hat or other logo wear to offset S/H. DO NOT accept it as is. S&W has a lifetime warranty, use it. It is not camfour or your FFLs fault. I have been wanting a couple of 325s myself. The fit/finish has simply put me off. Rough, unfinished and poor to no quality control is what I think of when looking them over.

but I mean...even ignoring the grips and the look of the finish...there were still marks around each cylinder flute that looked as if someone with a brown pen just dotted it up...basically it looked less maintained than the brand new regular smiths and even less maintained than the old smiths for rent at the range in the store...I thought the performance center would better done aesthetically...I mean I saw another performance center there...and it looked brand new...mine did not...

one of the guys who works there said it looked as though someone's shot it a bunch of times...he said he hasn't worked with camfour before, but that it was a possibility that A) the lied when they said it was brand new, or B) they had shot it themselves a bunch of times...I dunno how likely this is...but he seemed to think it was a possibility

Look at the front of the cylinder. Only 3 chambers (every other one) should have a burn ring from factory test firing. If all have burn rings then it has been fired outside of the factory. Also if you find no burn rings then it has been cleaned and possibly fired after it left the factory, but you won't know for sure. I doubt very seriously that it has been shot by the distributor.
Take a rag and some cleaner (the dealer should supply you with a little) and see if those spots will wipe off. If they come off then there's nothing to get excited about as a lot of new guns need cleaning. Dealers will clean guns before putting them out for display which is why the guns in the store look good. Just like a car dealership will have the cleanest cars on the showroom floor.
If you do decide to ship it back to the factory then call them first to tell them what's wrong. Ask for a shipping number and you won't have to pay shipping.
