Massive Scope on Rimfire

Who has done it?

Back when I was 16 years old, Dad had two, Winchester bench rest .22LR guns with 24" bull barrels that he used in the 4H Shooting classes he taught. I took one of those guns, removed the peep sights and mounted a 24x scope. I would tape pennies on cardboard boxes and try to hit them at 100 yards. I really learned some bench rest skills with this little experiment. It was a blast and it was darn cheap for Dad.....

So... I decided to do it again. After switching some guns and optics... I had a Bushnell Banner 6-18x50 just sitting. I also had a cheap, little Savage .22LR Bolt Action and.... I performed a marriage! Of course this isn't the Winchester that Dad had with a 1lb trigger.... but it will do for now.

Can't wait to shoot some pennies! We shall see if this setup will be good for head shots on squirrels.

That doesn't look massive to me--Leupold 7 x 35 VX HD5 rides on my CZ 457 jaguar.:D

Not a 22LR, but...
Were i to shoot matches with one, this would be my choice.

My BR 50 wannabe. CZ 457 American, Athlon 10-40x56 MOA reticle, Harrel tuner and a 12 oz trigger. Consistent 3/8 groups @ 50 yrds with RWS rifle match ammo.

Doesn't have a massive scope , but I do have a "cheap" Savage similar to yours with a 3 x 9 Nikon .

I have done some tinkering with it and it consistently shoots clover leafs at 50 yards from a solid bench rest.

Even before the trigger job and bedded stock it shot very well . So that Savage may surprise you . Good luck with it

Grrr

I bought my wife a sweet little 10/22 full stock carbine. Such a petite little thing.
My bride of course insists on a 3-9 variable scope. To me it's a crime against nature.
No accounting for taste I reckon.

Does a 3-9x40 count? This one's an Athlon, which I have since replaced with a Nikon.

This was just for fun,,,

I didn't leave this Vortex Diamondback on the CZ-512 Carbine for long,,,
I had purchased the scope for a CZ-457 Varmint At-One,,,

I just wanted to see what the monster scope looked like on the Carbine.

I did dial it into 5/8 groups at 50 yards though,,,
Now it wears a much more appropriate Nikon 3-9x32 scope.

My eyes don't like the Leopold Rimfire scope anymore. They do fine with various Cabella (one older but very nice varmint target with 1/8 click) and have to see.

This is a 4-14x40 on a 22lr rifle. Looks appropriate, can really reach out and see what I am shooting at.

my cz455 varmint wears a sightron III 8x32 scope. btw didnt have the money for it, make monthly payments on it....kinda like a kid with a cellphone/tablet.
....anyway once you do you will never go back...

Back in the day the hot setup used by a lot of 'smallbore' shooters ('smallbore' sounds so much cooler that '.22LR') was a Winchester 52 or an Anschutz 54 with a Unertl 20x scope on it that was shot at 50 FEET.

My largest mag optic, the Burris RT25, 5-25 is on my smallest caliber. My .22LR Precision rig.

I’ve had a straight 16x Redfield on my Rem RB. It has a Rem 513 barrel. I took scope off to shoot in Turkey Shoots where scopes aren’t allowed. Adapted a scope base to mount and old receiver sight. Any more for over 100yds I just use a Visine eye drops.
