Massachusetts "Class A" CCL

Question:

I got my LTC back in 1997. It was issued for "Target and Hunting" simply
because I didn't want to apply for an "all lawful purposes" one and risk
getting rejected.

My question is, When the licensing switched over to "Class A" and "Class B",
I was wondering what to do. I called the Malden Police Department(the officer that issues LTCs) and she stated that my license was still good and was
considered a "Class A - No Restrictions". Does that sound right? Officers
are only human and make many many mistakes.

Call Nancy at G.O.A.L. at (508) 393-5333. The police know nothing about this law and neither does the legislature that passed it. For some interesting insights on the law go to http://www.goal.org and check the summary of Chapter 180 under "MASS. LAW OVERVIEWS".

Also download a copy of the "state records request form" at: http://www.goal.org/cabinet/MARecordsRequest.pdf and send it in. This is the form that is mentioned on the home page titled "Criminal History Systems Board Cries Uncle".

Jimpeel, You are absolutely right! I also live in Ma., and my gun club's charter insists you are a member of GOAL & NRA to join. Good rule. I believe the Malden police are steering MrBlonde astray, tho. Call GOAL to be sure. They will set you straight. About the time this law went into effect, the state produced a pamphlet which stated in part: "On October 21, 1998, your current LTC will automatically become a Class A LTC until it's stated expiration date.".

But you should check with GOAL to see if Malden has any history of ignoring this. Joining GOAL is very inexpensive, but not joining can be very expensive if the liberals in this state ever get their way.
