Massachusetts approved gun list?

So somewhere I've heard, read, talked to someone about Massachusetts having an approved gun list. I assume that means the guns one can buy in MA. Is this real? I guess I'll look on line but thought I'd query here as well.

^^^ Although it's probably obvious if you read the link, this is an approved HANDGUN list.

AFAIK MA does not approve long guns and thus does not maintain an analogous long gun list.

MA does, however, maintain a list of so-called Large Capacity Weapons which require a Class A or B LTC to possess, depending on the weapon in question. This includes long guns and handguns.

http://www.mass.gov/eopss/docs/chsb/firearms/large-capacity-roster-06-2011.pdf

Lastly, MA state law bans possession of certain so-called "assault weapons" except those that are grandfathered. These are listed somewhere in MA state law but I haven't researched this in detail; however, AFAIK the banned list also includes both long guns and handguns.

[I'm not a MA resident and I only have a partial understanding of MA firearms laws, so if I've posted anything incorrect, feel free to jump in and correct me. :)]

From page 9 of the Approved roster:
PHP:
Sig Arms P220 .45 ACP
Sig Arms P220 Stainless .45 ACP
Well, I'm glad they clarified that.....

California is the same. Each distinct model variation is a different firearm, so the same model has to have two listings to cover both blued (or black polymer) and stainless.

And just to be clear that the above links only refer to the handguns approved by the safety commission, the document contains the following:

"Firearms on this Approved Firearms Roster do not necessarily comply with the requirements of the Attorney General’s Handgun Sales Regulations. Information about those regulations, as well as the Enforcement Notice may be obtained from the Office of the Attorney General and may be accessed on the website of the Attorney General (www.ago.state.ma.us).”

So it would appear that there is another list that the AG maintains.

I feel safer already! :)

And so I was curious and followed the blue brick road in the above link to see what changes the AG would have concerning this thread and all I could find was links back to the original list.
But then I just had to check the state firearm laws and wow! really, you need to get a license just to own a firearm. And all this time I thought Mass was part of the United States.

I periodically mention the irony that Massachusetts, the seat of the American Revolution, has one of the state constitutions that (unlike those of most of the original colonies) does NOT provide an individual right to keep and bear arms. In the Massachusetts state constitution, the RKBA is only for defense of the state.

Ironic ...
