The next target of terrorists may not be what you think.

Bridges, dams, large urban centers -- these are the places
that we traditionally think terrorists will strike. But
according to two instructors at a recent anti-terrorism
conference, preparations are already underway for horrific
attacks on American schools.

The article covers known terrorist threats to our public
schools as well as how they could happen. It also makes some
educated guesses on what effects a major attack on one of
our schools might have.
 
I also just read that it will only be a matter of time before terrorists strike a large sporting event. There was a discussion a few days ago on TFL about arming teachers and school officials. This plan was implemented in Israel and there has never been a terrorist attack on an Israeli school since.

If the SWAT team tries to breach the school, the terrorists will probably open fire, killing indiscriminately. If we arm the teachers there is already an armed unit inside the school.
 
9-11 was bad enough, I really think if the muslims do this,,, they themselves won't be safe walking down the streets or in their churches. I think many "innocent" muslims will pay the price from American death squads that are tired of the threats and their crazy tactics. I sure hope I am wrong and additionally hope this never comes to pass.

It is a foregone conclusion that there will be an attempt to kill large quantities of children in the US. Accept the inevitability. Deal with revulsion. Prepare.

Oh, I don't know Wild: if there's a Muslim attack on a school or two here in the 'States, ther probably WILL be an attack or two against mosques. Of course, we'll all be told how terrible it is that such revenge happens, and how wrong the perpetrators are...

Also (from the article): I wouldn't count on there not being a fair number of embedded terrorists in the schools now. There's all kinds of flakes in the 'States, and I'm willing to bet a fair number of them would be willing to act for terrorist causes...
 
The most ideal thing for terrorists is if their prospective targets get their collective panties in a bunch (i.e. be terrorized) without the Tangoes even having to do anything. At the risk of sounding complacent, the circumstances which made Beslan the nightmare it was do not apply in North America.

First, this is not the Northern Caucasus, and there is no long-running war going on. Basayev's goons could practically walk to Beslan from Chechnya, bringing their hardware with them. This is made all the easier by corruption and low morale in the Russian security forces, all too willing to look the other way for some hard cash which need because they hadn't been paid for months, and by the fact that the Northern Caucasus is a patchwork of constituent republics of varying ethnicities, many of whom don't like their neighbors.

Second, Russian CT personnel are crap. They can't secure a perimeter, they dicker about for days and finally resort to an amateurish frontal assault which results in large number of hostages (usually over hundred) getting killed, and more often than not a large chunk of the Tangoes escaping. It happened at Budyonnovsk in '95, and again at Beslan.

Third, this Russian-Chechen thing goes way back. You can read some of Tolstoy's short stories set in the 1850s, like The Cossacks and Hadji Murad, and understand more about what's going on the Caucasus now than from reading newspapers for a month.

Fourth, if al-Qaeda were capable of mounting attacks like those sketched by Grossman and Rassa, don't you think they'd have done it already?

Sure, we shouldn't get complacent. But we don't have to get all worked up over marginal maybes either.
 
I seem to recall reading something about the Beslan attack, concerning the "fortifications": that they had some of their own people in the construction teams that had done some rebuilding/remodeling, and they had reinforced some of their strong points at that time. Meaning there was LOTS of planning that went into the attack...

It IS still possible that it could happen in the States, though. I'm not gonna change my daily routine because of the possibility: I don't see the probability as being all that high...
 
sounds like a plan to me 4570...... i'm still of the belief that the muslims living among us aren't all that innocent as most people like to think......... but wildalaska is probably right... even if american children are murdered most of the sheeple still won't believe there is a war going on against these heathens......
