Mass. handgun laws?

Are there any stipulations to owning a handgun in Massachusetts, such as: Weight, caliber, material composition, or any other factor not mentioned?
I have been browsing gunbroker, and found one seller that claims his guns are "Mass compliant". I can't say all of his auctions are total ripoffs, but some are just totally out there; so what's up? Is there something special about selling guns to Massachusetts?

Boy are you in for a let down ! We aren't allowed to buy anything here for dam sakes....very limited on brand name handguns! :barf:

A few things

First of all +1 on going to Northeastshooters.com Lot of experience.

A couple of quick answers to your questions:

1. As long as you are properly licensed, there are no laws stipulating what you can or cannot own in the way of handguns (with the exception of NFA stuff) The issue is what NEW handguns a dealer is allowed to sell.

2. Eight years ago the MA AG decided that since the legislature wouldn't go along with a handgun ban, he would invoke the consumer protection laws and basically declared certain handguns to be unsafe. In order for a manufacturer to have his product deemed "safe" by the AG they had to submit four copies of EACH model they offered to the state for testing. Naturally, many of the companies including Glock, Colt, Kimber H & K, Taurus and most others looked at their business plan in MA and said to hell with that and have refused to submit their guns for testing, hence dealers cannot sell them. This is exactly the outcome the communist AG was hoping for.

This is a very simplified explanation of what happened.

3. Had you already owned one of those guns prior to 2000 when the AG went nuts or had brought it with you when you moved from another state, then you are good to go.

4. The dealer you are referring is most definitely trying to gouge on the MA compliant firearms
