Just wondering what these permits look like I'am going to be applying for one soon and am just curious is all. Do they have a picture on them and are they really to big to fit inside a wallet also are the laminated?

p.s. i have this post going over at glocktalk but haven't got any replies on it hope you guys can give me some feed back Also iam wondering if they are hard to get? the state trooper i talked with today was very friendly and said unless i had something on my record i woulden't have any problem getting it he said a non resident is easier to get vs. a resident permit just wondering if this were true. thanks in advance for any help.

I also would like to know. I spend quite a bit a time in Mass and would like to carry.

What is required for a permit (training, fingerprinting, etc)?

What is the cost?

How often would I have to renew?

Thanks

md the requirements are that you have a valid carry permit from your home state a safety training course in taken within the last year an nra instructor pistol course is fine. also there are photos required 2 passport are fine and yes you need a fingerprint card they supply it beleve. the cost is $50 per a year and renewals are every year which is the only thing i dislike about it but considering the one year gun law thing in mass. I'll go through the red tape imo hope this helps you out.

The nonresident ones appear pretty easy to get as they are issued by the State Police. The CCW's for the locals are issued depending on the attitude of the police chief of the town you live or work in. It supposedly can not be arbitrary but I know of a guy who got one in a town that basically didn't issue them because his dad had been on the fire dept. Believe it or not the current gun laws were a motivating factor in my going for one! I expected to be refused and was going to sue to "the highest court in the land!" :) The "police state" way they grant them here was that offensive to me! Fortunately my CP had the only correct attitude and I gave my lawyer's money to GOAL instead! Sorry foi the rant! You mention MASS gun control laws and it's like "Niagra Falls" in the Stooges!

Are you sure about the course having been taken in the past year as a requirement?

The in-state LTC is pretty big. Is just barely fits in my wallet. It does have a pic, and right index print. It did come laminated.
I have never seen an out of state permit, so I'm not sure if the above applies.

Our resident permits get renewed every 4 years. Are you sure non-residents have to renew every year?Check out www.packing.org to get hard evidence and info on the non-resident permit. That site should answer any questions.

Its $100 per year for non-residents. Need to take a MA certified pistol or firearms class. Pretty easy.

So that you dont end up with restrictions put the following for reasons needed:

"For all lawful purposes"

I have a Non res CCW class A. As of August 1 2009 thier is a new procedure. For first timers you will need a firearms course that is approved by the State Police. Its $100 for year. You send in your application with payment and then they Firearms board will contact you to come down to Chelsea, MA and "complete" the application. Complete means get your picture taken on a digital CCW card. I re-applied in August and have been waiting to get contacted for my appointment to "complete" the application. I just posted a thread about my situation in the General forum. I'll post a copy of that below...........

I have re-applied for my MA Non res. CCW class A. There is a new procedure this year that you send in the application with payment and then they contact you with a date to come in and finish the application( get your picture taken on an ID card.) Of course this new procedure is done on purpose to shun away Non residents from getting thier permits. BUt I dont live too far from the MA firearms board so I will continue to apply since I'm in MA alot. Has any one gone through this new process and how long did it take for them to contact you? I havnt heard anyting yet and My CCW expires in October. I believe by law that I get 90 days after expiration if my renewal application is in limbo.
