Maryland SB 281 AWB passes the Senate

The MD House votes on a similar bill, which Democrats figure will pass "overwhelmingly".

The Senate and House reconcile the bills, the final goes to O'Malley to sign, which he will.

A Springfield M1A is now an "assault weapon". The Mini-14, with a folding stock, is also one, but the Mini-30 got overlooked. A Garand is NOT an "assault weapon".

The bill text and status is listed here. Basically, we've got a cut-and-paste from Feinstein's bill, along with a few tidbits from New York's SAFE Act.

FACT: Violent crime follows firearms controls.

This young lady illustrated this to the legislators; and the passage of this bill proves that facts do not matter, their minds are made up.

What matters to politicians is agenda. They will take the agenda over common sense every time. Now all the people of Maryland have is the choice whether they want to continue losing more freedoms -- led by these same legislators -- or to recover their freedoms by replacing them at the next election with pro-freedom legislators.

I was particularly amused at former CT AG and now Senator Blumenthal's admission that none of the new CT laws would have had any impact on the Sandy Hook murders.

Failure is a feature, not a "bug", in the Democrat program. Some are too stupid to understand what they are doing, and some know exactly what the ultimate goal is.

They enact useless legislation now. When it fails to have an impact, they will double-down and enact more...fail and enact, fail and enact. Chicago IS the model. Emmanuel calls for more regulation, and does he talk about the murder rate or the 446 kids hit by gunfire in his city in 2012? Nope, he talks about some white kids in a pastoral setting in CT. Stunning cynicism, IMO, and abdication of duty.

Kimio and Patriot... no, up to this point MD did not have a ban. The "assault weapons", such as AR's and AK's, along with all handguns, were merely "regulated" (read that as "have to be registered with MD"). Assault PISTOLS, however, like the MAC 10 or TEC-9, were banned after 8/1/1994 (unless grandfathered).

With respect to the bill just passed, here is an excerpt from an email I received a couple of days ago from MD Shall Issue that really spelled out what O'Malley's agenda really is:

On Friday, 29 March 2013, the representatives on the Joint House Committee bowed to heavy pressure from Governor O'Malley and passed SB281 out of committee with limited changes.

Every Pro-2A amendment was defeated, even those that passed.

Yes, you heard me right -- even the amendments that passed were defeated.

Delegate Smigiel proposed an amendment to the bill that would deny time off for good behavior to any criminal who used a firearm in the commission of a crime. The amendment passed 24-21. Chairman Vallario then called a break in the hearing.

Delegates were hustled into the back room by the Governor's whips. Moments later, the Delegates returned and the amendment was voted on for a second time. With the Chairman's vote included, the bill was defeated in a tie vote of 23-23.

The only part of the legislation that would punish those who commit gun violence was stripped from the bill and barred from further consideration. (emphasis in the original)

I was literally stunned by the perversity of this maneuver. The ONLY thing targeting ACTUAL PERPETRATORS of gun violence was removed from the bill.

All the rest of the tired old debunked garbage they proposed, all aimed at the lawful gun owners of MD, is going through.

What a freaking nightmare. I guess I'll be getting fingerprinted soon. I wonder if they'll give me a complimentary frisk, too?
