Kimio and Patriot... no, up to this point MD did not have a
ban. The "assault weapons", such as AR's and AK's, along with all handguns, were merely "regulated" (read that as "have to be registered with MD"). Assault PISTOLS, however, like the MAC 10 or TEC-9, were banned after 8/1/1994 (unless grandfathered).
With respect to the bill just passed, here is an excerpt from an email I received a couple of days ago from MD Shall Issue that really spelled out what O'Malley's agenda really is:
On Friday, 29 March 2013, the representatives on the Joint House Committee bowed to heavy pressure from Governor O'Malley and passed SB281 out of committee with limited changes.
Every Pro-2A amendment was defeated, even those that passed.
Yes, you heard me right -- even the amendments that passed were defeated.
Delegate Smigiel proposed an amendment to the bill that would deny time off for good behavior to any criminal who used a firearm in the commission of a crime. The amendment passed 24-21. Chairman Vallario then called a break in the hearing.
Delegates were hustled into the back room by the Governor's whips. Moments later, the Delegates returned and the amendment was voted on for a second time. With the Chairman's vote included, the bill was defeated in a tie vote of 23-23.
The only part of the legislation that would punish those who commit gun violence was stripped from the bill and barred from further consideration. (emphasis in the original)
I was literally stunned by the perversity of this maneuver. The ONLY thing targeting ACTUAL PERPETRATORS of gun violence was
removed from the bill.
All the rest of the tired old debunked garbage they proposed, all aimed at the
lawful gun owners of MD, is going through.
What a freaking nightmare. I guess I'll be getting fingerprinted soon. I wonder if they'll give me a complimentary frisk, too?
