Maryland Gun Registration

I usually keep the registration to all my weapons at home, hidden in a safe for insurance purposes and to have records of serial numbers should they ever get stolen. When traveling to the range, I always keep my guns unloaded and in the trunk of my car.

My question is ...
Am I required by the state of Maryland to have the registration in my possession while transporting my guns to and from the shooting range?

Also, my girlfriend's parents have property in West Virginia where I shoot as well. Am I required to bring the registration for my weapons when I go there too?

I know the cautious answer is "probably safe than sorry", but I'd just assume leave the registrations at home where I don't have to worry about them getting misplaced or left behind. Does anyone know for sure?

Thanks. :)

I lived in Maryland for 57 years, until 6/05, when I finally decided to vote with my feet.

You are NOT required to keep the paperwork with you for a handgun or "restricted weapon".

You are NOT required to bring your paperwork with you when visiting other states.

Nothing in the law in Maryland that created the Registration requires the paperwork to accompany the weapon. It is simple for any Maryland Police Agency to access the MSP data base by serial number in case of inquiry.:)

Thanks! :)

I'll be voting with my feet as well (or more likely smoking tires) once I have family matters in order. ;)

New Jersey

I will be voting with my feet in New Jersey, once I get squared away. And I hope I am replaced with an Illegal Alien who, instead of pouring money into NJ, instead, NJ pours it into my replacement.

No, and no to both questions.
My parents and brother live in West Virginia and they are hinting to me to move there. One day in the not too distant future, we will. When we do, I will apply for a CCW permit. I am going to hunt there next deer season.

Anyone who does decide to vote with their feet needs to send a letter to their state representative. In it, you need to very briefly outline your reasons for leaving. While you may think that it won't matter, after a while, even if it's only one or two letters a month, it will begin to make a point that might just influence a vote.:)

Interesting. If you purchase a handgun in Maryland, even in a face-to-face, you are to complete the Maryland State Police Application to purchase a handgun. This also applies to "Restricted Weapons", long guns that are on a special list.

The application, and $10.00, goes to the State Police, and is returned during the mandatory seven-day waiting period to the seller. Upon receipt of the approvel ( actually stamped "Not Disapproved"), and the expiration of the 7-dat waiting period, the weapon is yours upon completion, in the case of a store sale, of the 4473. In the case of handguns, or the restricted catagory weapons, there is no additional NICS check, as the MSP has already done it. In addition, any pistol sold in Maryland after 2003 or 2004, has to have a fired shell-casing accompany the application, unless the weapon was made before 1986, or has already been sold in Maryland, and the shell-casing is on file. Thios requirement does not extend to the restricted catagory.

If you haven't been doing that, don't comment any further, as you are admitting to multiple felonies. The number on the application is the Registration Number for the handgun, along with the serial number.:o

I live in Maryland and I don't have/need a registration for any of my guns. What are you talking about?

You did fill out an application and waited 7 days when you bought your handguns from the dealer did`nt you? Even if you buy rifles or shotguns you still have to fill out the forms.

Of course I did, I just never referred to my paperwork as "registration".

Thanks scoop.
