Marlin XS7/308

I like the looks of the new short action Marlin XS7, the mickey mouse scope base Marlin includes with their rifle sucks, I've tried the usual places to find a steel one piece base but have struck out. I did read after googling XS7 rifles that Marlin XS7 use the same base as a S/Action Model 70 Winchester, can anyone confirm this!! William

Can't answer your question, But suggest

Go to the site for the base you are interested in getting (Leupold, Burris, etc) and search for the base they offer for the Winchester and the Marlin. You can cross reference the part nos. to see if they are the same.

I have been doing this for stocks for another rifle.

Yes, I can confirm that. I have an XS7. I recently purchased a one-piece Leupold base made for a Winchester Model 70 and it fit perfectly.

Search at Google or Amazon (or wherever) for "51738 Leupold".

I went to the leupold website and it didn't provide squat, MidwayUSA had information only for the XL7 which did not link the Winchester bases to the Marlin XS7 or the XL7 rifles. Non the less thank both vegatables & FrankenMauser for conformation. I like the idea of a cheap rifle for a knock around but the factory supplied base looked like what it is just something to throw in. Now I know I have both a two piece and a solid base mount I can choose from! Thank you!! William

You have to admit though, its nice that an inexpensive rifle actually come with bases at all. My XL-7 25-06 shoot less than 1moa with mickey mouse bases, a Prostaff and handloads... Theyre not that bad......

You can spend more money if you want, but you won't get any better base than comes with the rifle. They are standard Weavers, but with a 1 piece rail. Been working just fine for at least 50 years.
