Marlin Model 60 Tackdrivers

My first gun was a Marlin Model 60 when I was 13. I used it in 50 yard, open sights NRA qualification, years ago, and was amazed at it's accuracy. I competed against guys with bolt action target rifles and was never defeated. The guys would get frustrated when my $100 Walmart gun could outshoot their high dollar target rifles. I have put many thousands of rounds through it, and it still is a tackdriver. Anybody else have a Marlin, this model or any other, that can beat other, more expensive target rifles? Is it the Micro Groove that makes them so accurate?

I traded a cheap rangefinder(~$50) for a marlin 60 a few years ago.

I brought the banged up beater to the range with my 10/22(bedded stock/trigger job).

The marlin shot circles around it and I sold the ruger a few days later. The ruger was fun and now that i sold it I wish I hadn't but after a day at the range and fingers throbbing from loading the 10/22 mags I didn't miss it.

Yep, the micro grove rifling is hard to beat. Mine is in 22 MAG, had it out last Saturday to sight in a new scope, was done in 5 shots. Put another 5 into the target just for the ---- of it.

Traded a 10/22 years ago for a Model 60. No regrets. Scary accurate for an inexpensive production rifle. Must have got an oddball, shoots right with the 541T.

I have two Mod. 60s, one stamped Western Auto Supply was made in Oct. 1964, the other a Glenfield was in March, 1966. neither have serial numbers, one (not sure at this point) is like brand new, not a scratch on it, I got for $100.00 at a pawn shop. the other, was a behind the seat gun and I got it from a guy at work for $30.00. I shoot the behind the truck gun and leave the other at home. It still shoots dead on. I love the Mod. 60s

My Western Auto, (Marlin 60) was bought in 64 and is the 2nd most accurate 22 rifle in my collection. Only second to my scoped Match 10/22. If it was forty years newer with a few hundred thousand fewer rounds and a scope it might be the number one gun. Who knows? Marlin did something right. :D

Me, three.
Model 60s are uncanny.
They seem to consistently shoot as well as guns costing many times their price.
Cheap and good, hard to beat.

Got the Western Auto version for Christmas as a kid 45+ yrs ago. It was amazingly accurate. Those older versions had a longer barrel that may have helped their accuracy. I think my gun is still as accurate as ever, however my eyes now require a scope and the older 60s were not grooved. It is drilled and tapped for scope mounts but I have not found any to fit it. Anybody know a source for scope mounts for that rifle?
