Marlin model 60--good?

I have a Marlin model 60, 22 LR semi-automatic. Have had some jamming problems with it but gunsmith replaced extractor. Also had some 22 ammo that would not fire with very good firing pin indentation. I'm told that's due to bad ammo.

I think the gun's fine now but I know if I use certain ammo I'll have a misfire problem about every 12-14 shots. Premium ammo seems to do fine.

Have some of you guys had good luck with this gun? Don't know whether to sell it or keep it.

Marlin Model 60s are a cheap, reliable gun, with very few issues typically. They are very simple, and this accounts for their reliability. They are not a great gun, but they are fun and cheap. If it breaks, trade it`in towards a new one, it will be cheaper than fixing it.
 
My 1971 vintage 60 ran like a clock until I flat wore some parts out. Now I'm waiting for the parts to be available again so i can resurrect it.
 
It could be the hammer - mainspring.
They're cheap and easy to replace.
Or maybe the firing pin just needs a good cleaning.
Or even replacing if the nose is worn.
Parts are easily found and very inexpensive for these.
They are such a good little gun, it would be a shame to give up on it.
 
i just replaced all the springs in my marlin 60. i was having ejection issues, after well over 100k rounds thru it.

the marlin 60 is also one of the most accurate semi autos out of the box(in its general price range).

also mine hates remington golden bullet bulk pack. i get about 1 in 10 ftf from it.
 
I bought a brick of Remington Thunderbolts and I get quite a few misfires with them in my Model 60 - and boy, are they dirty. I shoot CCI MiniMags exclusively now. No problems, clean, highly reliable.
 
I think at one time there were more Marlin 60 22 rifles being sold than all other brands and models combined.

I only see 10 or 20 at gun shows, but world wide, they were very popular.
