Marlin model 39as 22 lever action.

I bought one of these because I always liked lever guns and this one was advertised to hold up to 26 .22 shorts in the magazine. Sure enough it does and you can get some fairly hot shorts and do some serious plinking. But the icing on the cake was that if you get .22 cb caps, you can shoot it and it sounds like a bb gun. Really. There is no muzzle blast. You can shoot all day and unless someone actually sees the gun, they won't usually know you are shooting. Cool.

How is the accuracy of the 39as with shorts and cb's (and long rifle).
I want to buy either the marlin 39as or a winchester 9422 traditional or perhaps legacy. I'm trying to decide which one.

I have an old 39A and was fairly impressed with the accuracy. I shot a group on paper with iron sights at 50 yards. I don't want to have to try an recall what the group was (I have it written down somewhere) but it was satisfying. I was able to plink shotgun shells at 50 yards reliably.

It is small game accurate to fifty yards. I have not shot it at a longer range. The shorts are accurate also, but the cb's group about 4 inches or so lower at fifty yards. One of the reasons I went with the marlin is that it will feed all the 22 ammo, except .22WMR.
