Marlin: Micro or Ballard for solid copper bullets?

Being in CA, there are areas where lead is not allowed for hunting. I've heard Ballard is best for cast bullets, but which is better, more accurate for the micro groove barrels using solid copper bullets?

I'm considering getting a Marlin lever gun, maybe in 45-70 or even 30-30.

Doesn't really matter. With a lever action rifle or carbine the type of rifling is WAY down on the list of things that are affecting accuracy.

Ballard rifling is twice as deep as "microgroove" so it may not give as good a gas seal. Since you are using copper projectiles you don't have to worry about soft lead clogging up the micro grooves. That being said I don't think you'll see a lick of difference in performance with solid copper bullets.

However, if you ever get to a free state and can use hard cast bullets then the Ballard rifling is the better choice.

Yeah, thought about that last night. Who know how long I want to stay around this crazy state! And hopefully these left wing laws that defy common sense do not spread nationwide!
